"Well, thanks again, maybe we get to see each other more often like this" You continue and make a lighthearted joke as the two of you part ways, again. It didn't take long to find the store, as you walked in a particular smell caught your attention as a wave of nostalgia hit you like a truck.

"Holly fuck I missed this smell." You inhale a bit deeper this time, taking in the scent a bit better. "You seem to like the aroma we have set up young man" An old lady said from the counter.

"Yeah, I used to walk by this place a lot, I'm guessing you still had a little candle table at the front at that time." You chuckle, taking a look around. "You look familiar, are you here for vacation or?.." She trailed off.

"Well.. No actually, my aunt died and I inherited her house so my family decided to move here since my father also got a nice offer for a new job by sheer coincidence" She nodded, listening along as she arranged some containers back onto their place on the shelf at the front.

"Was her name Mary (L/N)?" She said after a few seconds of silence. "The one and only" Letting out a small chuckle you continue to scout the shelves for anything that would peak your interest. "We we used to be high school sweethearts" She said as you stopped, Mary was a hardcore christian so it slightly shocked you to hear she supported people of the LGBTQ.

"Really? Wow.." You add in amazement as you turn to the old woman while she's rummaging through some sort of picture book. "I know, shocking right? Sadly she already had an arranged marriage ready and waiting till she turned of age so we couldn't really continue our relationship."

You listen as you walk closer, inspecting the book she was flipping through as she showed you an image of two young women holding each other gently in a side hug. "That picture is adorable" She smiled at the comment and looked back up at you.

"She was a lovely woman, such a shame that she had to die so young. No need to be sad for something you cannot change though." She said in a bit of a lighter tone, attempting to lighten the mood. "You're right, anyways.. Do you by chance have any security cameras or new house locks here?" Switching the topic you focus on whatever you were originally here to get. "We just got a new delivery, I'll be back in a second." She happily walked away, old people are adorable.

You smile to yourself, patiently waiting for her as you hear some boxes moving and tape tearing from the back room she entered. Those deliveries must've been really recent since they were not on the shelves just yet. The lady came back soon after.

"Oh! Are you by chance also hiring?" You awkwardly asked as she scanned your items and rang you up. "Yes! Yes we are! A few old employees left due to how close to this area the murders latest victim was found" She said worryingly as the last part of her sentence caught her attention.

"Latest victim?" She nodded and continued, "Yes, this morning a teenage boy was found dead in the alleyway about a block away." Her sentence stunned you. The stalker. Was he the murderer? No. There was no blood on him. It's possible he strangled the victim though.. "It's alright, I still want the job, when can I start?" You said, dedicated. You aint about to let some goofy ass killer ruin your first job for you.

She handed you a small schedule and told you your first shift starts tomorrow as you took the now bagged items and left the store. "Woah.. that went so well" You breathe out in disbelief you got a job just like that. The walk home was peaceful, thank fuck it was a bit windy so the summer sun didnt literally boil you alive. Finally reaching your house you try to open the front door, realizing it was locked you dropped the bag gently onto the floor next to your legs. "Maybe they went out, hope they've heard about the murder, its better to b e safe than sorry" You mumble getting the extra key from its hiding spot. Walking inside you call out to your mom.

You notice a small note and read it.

'I'll be back soon <3'

-Mom

"Must've left to go to the store" Crumbling the note and throwing it away you make your way back into your room and throw yourself onto the bed as you kick off your shoes. "God, I'm exhausted." You sign out as you take off your shirt and sigh in relief as the cool air of the air conditioner hits you, finally you aren't being cooked like a rotisserie chicken. Laying back down you soon drift to sleep, again.
