Brooklyn POV

I was never one to believe in love at first sight, well that was until I met Auston Matthews. It was a warm summer evening in Toronto when destiny brought us together, although little did I know that this love story would be short of a fairytale. My name is Brooklyn Seguin and this is the beginning of my complicated journey.

I had moved to Toronto to attend University, apart from Toronto being a big hockey city it was inevitable that hockey was a big part of my life. My older brother Tyler Seguin has made a name for himself in the NHL. Although sometimes the name he made was not the best because he is known for being an out of control party boy in Boston things took a turn for the better when he landed in Dallas to play for the Stars. His career began to flourish. Hockey was in our blood and it was only natural that I was drawn to the sport.

The NHL biggest charity event was being held in Toronto this year. Everyone got together for this event and since it was in Toronto Tyler asked me if I wanted to go with him. Tyler and Jamie Benn were both staying in my apartment with me. I lived in a nice comfortable two bedroom apartment in the heart of Toronto, I can't say I did this on my own because Tyler of course being my loving caring brother paid for it so I did not have to worry about money or live in a dorm while in school.

"Ty!" I yell into the living room

He comes into the doorway of my room "what"

"I need help picking out a dress" I had laid out three black dresses on my bed but I had never been to a black tie event before especially one of this caliber

"They all look the same" he scuffs and giggles at me

I roll my eye as Jamie also enters my bedroom door way

"Which one?" I say hoping Jamie would be more help he was way more fashionable than Tyler anyway

"Hmm" he bonders ridiculously placing his hand on his chin "I like that one" he says as he points to the strapless dress

"Thank you for being more help then my useless brother" I say as I simultaneously shoo them out of my room

I finish getting dressed, after curling my hair, adding the last finishing touches and putting on my heels. Jamie was right, this was the perfect dress.

"Lets go Brooks, we are going to be late" Tyler calls for me from the living room

"Be out in a minute" I shout back

I looked in the mirror about ten more times and then took a few pictures so I could post them on my Instagram and Snapchat stories. I proceed from my room to see the two guys standing Tyler staring at his watch

"Yea a minute.. Ten minutes later" he comments

I playfully smack him and grab my purse and out the door we went

Once we got to the event the place was filled with so many people and so many big names, we began to search for our seats and that is when I saw a tall, striking figure with dark brown eyes. It was Auston Matthews, the rookie for the Toronto Maple Leafs. The world around me faded as I locked eyes with him and for a moment I forgot about everything else.

Tyler noticed immediately. He did not like Matthews for some reason and despised him. Tyler has always been protective of me and the last thing he wanted was for his little sister to get involved with a hockey player, especially one that was his rival.

"Brooklyn what the hell do you think you are doing" Tyler growled through clenched teeth just quiet enough for only me to hear him, "you stay away from that guy he's trouble."

"But somethings different about him, I can't explain" I said softly, my voice trembling slightly

I don't even know how Tyler knew who I was looking at. The room was filled with so many people, I guess it was just his brotherly instincts that kicked in. I was brought back out of my own thoughts when Tyler grabs my arm and pulls me towards him looking me dead in the eyes

"Understood?" He said firmly but not in an aggressive way more of a protective way

"Understood" I replied

As Tyler led me away to our seat for the night I cast one last look back at Auston. His expression mirrors mine; it was one of confusion and a silent plea.
