Another day, same routine, im woken up by the irritating buzzing noise from my alarm clock. I look up with bloodshot eyes half open 6:30am, I give my arm a swing which hits the clock to the floor resulting in silence, then I role over and force myself back to sleep again. My wife Kaitlyn and I haven't been sleeping well since our 5 year old daughter April was kidnapped and that was 2 years, 5 months, 3 weeks and 4 days ago. Anyway I manage to get up at 7:30am, get dressed which includes putting on my badge which reads "Chuck Randol Employee". Then I take a quick glance at Kate who is lying on her stomach lightly snoring and drooling on her pillow, finally I grab an orange and eat it on the way to the 24 hour convenience store where I work.

"Late again I see, were you not informed that you had to be in earlier than usual because you are taking Rosins shift today" snaps my manager Rona Darcy.

"Sorry, it wont happen again" I try to say as apologetic as possible.

"You say that every time Chuck, this is your last warning now get out of my sight and behind that counter before I put you out altogether" she said with a glare that never left my face.

Now some people might think, that's a bit harsh of Rona to say, but she stopped liking me ever since I ran over her dog 2 years ago. I guess it was partially me to blame, but its not my fault that her dog hated her so much that it ran straight under my car.

"Yeah I got it" i replied as quickly as possible before turning and dashing to the counter.

"Now I have got to run some errands do you think you can manage by yourself for the day" she said sarcastically as she left the shop.

I hate my manager, actually I hate this job, but right now its one of the only things that gets me up in the morning so for that I am grateful. After work I usually go home have take-away food with Kate and then spend the rest of the night trying to sleep and well that's my daily routine, but for now i'm stuck in work slouched over the counter struggling to keep my head up.
