The silence did not continue.
"This is Inspector Sarah Parker Interviewing Chuck Randal. I'm going to ask you a number of questions concerning the death of your wife Kaitlyn. Randal do you understand?" She asked making sure the recorder could pick up what we were saying.
"Yes" I replied preparing myself for the questions.
"Where were you when your wife was murdered" she asked as her eyes narrowed.
I froze for a moment as I heard the word murdered and it gave me goosebumps instantly.
"At work in the 24 hour convenience store". I replied without hesitation.
"Are you sure because we checked the camera in the shop and apparently they were turned off at 11:25pm last night by you, they were then turned on at 2:45am this morning by you and your wife was shot between these hours" she said suspiciously.
"I know, but Kate was with me in the shop at 11:25pm, she then left at 2:00am and then I was cleaning up before I turned the inside camera back on" I said quickly trying to explain myself.
"Oh really, well what were you doing when you turned off the camera and what were you cleaning up?" Sarah asked with a grin on her face that let me know that she didn't believe a word I was saying.
"I was doing....eh Kate in the back, then we had wine, ate sandwich's and when she left I cleaned up the mess, turned the camera back on and swept the floor before James came to take over" I said partly embarrassed and partly proud.
"OK, i've heard enough for tonight we shall resume this tomorrow " she said turning off the recorder.
"We are going to keep you here under surveillance for the night. You can go get something to eat now and then I suggest you get some rest" Sarah stood up and walked to the door as I followed. She then led me to a cell where I would spend the night.
