TWENTY- SEVEN
Cemre
--------Feeling sleep disoriented I turned on my side and reached across the bed for my phone. I thumbed the on button and hissed when the screen lit up at it's brightest setting.
"Stupid phone". I murmered as I rubbed the stars out of my eyes. I blinked then focused on the numbers flashing the current time. 4:33.
I couldn't exactly remember what had woken me. Not until I heard a soft thump from the bathroom, and the padded steps of Donny descending the staircase.
What the hell is he doing now?
I groaned and ran my hands over my face.
There always had to be something.
Sighing bitterly I kicked off my sheets and half rolled, half tripped out of bed. After slipping on some socks I left the room and tiptoed down the hallway.
A lamp was turned on in the living room casting a soft glow across the ceiling. Along with two shadows.
When I was halfway down the staircase I made out two voices whispering back and forth. One belonged to Donny, and the other I recognized as Max's voice.
"Shit Donny!" I heard Max hiss, "Your not dumping that on me".
"It has to be sterilized".
"It already has been".
I wasn't exactly sure what was going on when I arrived on the scene. Donny was kneeling on the couch, clutching a open bottle of peroxide, next to Max who had his head propped against the back of the cushions.
I cleared my throat.
Donny glanced over. "Er...this isn't what it looks like".
"What the hell is wrong with you two?" I snapped. I made a exasperated gesture towards Uncle Gavin's room. "Your gonna wake him up!"
"He's drunk". Max stated with a lazy wave of his hand.
"What are you doing?" I asked impatiently.
Donny shrugged. "Playing doctor".
"That's not funny". Max growled. "And put the fucking peroxide down. Your gonna tip it in my eye or something".
"I'm only trying to help". Donny snapped.
I clamped my fingers over the bridge of my nose and walked over to them. "What is this all- the fuck!" My eyes widened when I caught sight of the blood smeared across Max's forehead."What did you do?"
"He cut himself". Donny added, "On a branch".
"A branch?"
"He was sleepwalking outside".
I leaned over so that I could get a better veiw of the injury. "You got this from a branch?"
"Yeah".
I put my fingers on either side of cut and gently spread his skin apart so I could assest how deep the wound was. "This is pretty deep man".
Max let out a grunt before he slapped my hand away. "Your just making it bleed more".
"Sorry".
"You wanna take care of it?" Donny asked. He handed me the peroxide. "He won't let me do it".
"Yeah cuz your trying to dump it all over me". Max said with a edge to his tone.
"This might need stitches". I pointed out.
"We got butterfly bandages". Donny said quickly. He got off the couch so that I could take his place.
"I don't need the peroxide". Max affirmed.
"Yeah, well your getting it".
Max opened his mouth to say more but before he could argue further I dumped the peroxide on a towel Donny had given me, then I gently pressed it against the open cut.
He hissed and squirmed until the fizzing went away.
"That wasn't so bad". I said.
"Says you".
I dabbed the towel over his forehead to get rid of the smeared blood, and dirt stains.
I held my hand out to Donny who was assisting on the sidelines. "I need the bandages".
"Kay".
After I put on the butterfly stitches I wrapped Max's forehead with bandage wraps. By the end of it all he looked kind of like those injured soldiers from the old war movies.
"Your all done". I told him.
He breathed out a "thanks".
"Maybe later today you should visit the clinic and have Felisha look at it". I got up from the couch and stretched my arms above my head. "For now get some sleep".
"I'm not tired". He said through a yawn.
"Well I am".
I helped Donny clean up the mess of medical equipment before I went to the bathroom to wash the blood off my hands.
When I returned to the living room Donny was fiddling with the tv remote while Max was going through a stack of DVDs.
"If you two watch something make sure it's on a low volume". I told them as I walked over to the staircase.
"Sure thing". Donny droned.
I bid them a goodnight then went up to my room.
After getting in bed I checked the time on my phone again. 5:01.
I mentally groaned.
I only had two more hours of sleep time.
Today was my first day on the ice cream job. Which began at 8.
I was kind of looking forward to it honestly.
------
After taking a quick shower, and putting on some shorts and a DC t-shirt I tramped downstairs for a bit of toast before leaving.
As I crossed the living room Donny jerked up from the floor. "You going somewhere Cemre?"
I glanced over at Max who was lying on his side with his head tucked between his arms.
Some action movie was playing on the tv, and a few open cans of soda were spread out over the floor next to Donny.
"Can I come with?" Donny asked. He followed me into the kitchen.
"I'm going to work".
"So".
I put two slices of bread in the toaster then searched through the fridge for Jam.
"Can I at least come to town with you?"
"Why?"
"So I don't die of boredom".
I heard the pop of the toaster.
"I don't care what you do Donny". I said. I put the Jam on the toast. "Just as long as your ready before I leave".
With that said Donny dashed out of the kitchen.
It took me maybe five minutes before I was done with my breakfast and leaving the cabin.
I got halfway across the lawn when the front door opened and Donny came stumbling out. "Wait up Cemre!"
I slowed down just enough for him to catch up; then it was off to my first day of work.
And whatever the hell Donny was going to spend the rest of his day doing.
