"Ali?" The shocked face turned around as I tearfully nodded. There was a moment of silence and hesitation before he threw his phone on the bed, accepting the fact I was awake and hugging me tightly. "I love you so much."
Gently he pressed his lips...
Do you like friend reunions? Hell to the no I don't.
Especially when it's your high school boyfriend.
I was just out on a date with Oscar during the three-week-gap between the Australian Grand Prix and the Azerbaijan GP when I bumped into the boy that had broken my heart after dating me for five years in England. Oscar had decided to come over to England to have a look at the Silverstone circuit, and that turned out to a coffee shop date instead.
I didn't recognise him at first, until I heard his voice. Me and Oscar were both hunched up by the high tables as of the coldness we both felt, and when I heard his voice I seriously choked on my hot chocolate right in front of them. I was a total idiot.
"It's literally so fucking cold, and they have to turn on the air conditioner," Oscar groaned as he glanced at his coffee, and sighed. "Does it have to be this cold in England during April?" I shrugged as he lowered his cap even more when a few girls entered the store and placed a kiss on my forehead.
"You know the weather forecast said it might snow again," I pointed out, pulling his face in as he chuckled and ruffled my hair lightly. "So, England or Australia?"
"I have to choose Australia!" Oscar rolled his eyes. "You know I have to."
"Of course," I sipped my hot chocolate. "Should I get one of those cups?"
"You have loads," He shook his head. "No."
"Fuck you," I mumbled.
"When?" He whispered into my ear. I bit my lip and cursed. "Tonight?"
"We'll see about that, Piastri," I breathed. Suddenly a voice made me choke on my chocolate, and Oscar patted my back. "What the fuck?"
"Yeah, Sam, you did do a great job," The boy's voice sounded impressed. The boy smiled slightly at the girl called sam, as she flexed her body at some men. They grunted and winked in approval as I stared at Oscar. He rolled his eyes and stared back at his phone. "You got Alissa Norris to fall for your tricks. I'm still impressed after all these years."
"Why are you involved in this?" Oscar pulled me closely in as I flinched.
"I-" I hesitated. I never told him the full story. The thing was, during high school, I thought I found a new best friend. Her name was Samira, and she was the popular girl of the school. Every boy had a crush on her, and she didn't mind. Then she heard the story of my weak heart and introduced her 'brother' to me, and said he was loyal to every girl he had dated before.
As a reckless teenager, I didn't sense anything that was going wrong. The way they flirted with each other in front of me, I wasn't cautious of it. I explained everything to Oscar, who was absolutely fuming and red by the time I'd finished.
"I have to teach these fucking bitches a lesson," He muttered angrily under his breath. Before I could protest and pull him back, he struck his hand out and gripped the boy's arm, Ethan, and pushed him forward. He fell into an old lady and apologised. The old dear stared at him weirdly as she left the shop shaking her head disappointedly, muttering horrible things about teenagers not taking caution. Ethan glared at him as he returned.
"What is wrong with you?" He frowned at Oscar, who panted.
"Maybe I should ask that," He glared at him slightly as I gripped onto his arm, shaking my head gently at him. But he wasn't convinced. "You clearly broke my fucking girlfriend's heart all those years ago, and you're still impressed? Can you not fucking move on for once?" Around us people had started staring and whispering. Ethan stared at me.
"Alissa, is that you?" Ethan raised his eyebrows as I shrunk behind Oscar. "You're fucking hot now, I can't deny you! Man, you know what, you can have Samirah here, and I'll have Ali. Do we have a deal?"
"No deal!" He shouted in horror. "Go back to that little bratty girl of yours. She's ugly and tell her to remove that makeup off. She would look better without that makeup. It makes her look like an ugly pig!" Sam gasped and unsurprisingly, started brawling like a little baby and ran straight out of the coffee shop. Some people laughed at her, or muttered behind her back. Furiously, Ethan stormed out of the shop, shaking his fist at Oscar.
"We're going," Oscar grumbled.
"Where?" I asked. "My house?" He ignored me.
~~
"That was very helpful of you," I muttered when we got back to my apartment. "You didn't need to step up. That was ages ago. I'm not weak now, I can defend myself. Oscar, you don't need to stand up for me anymore. I'm all grown."
"So you're defending him now?" Oscar gritted his teeth fiercely as I shook my head sadly and sat by the dining table instead, trying to get as far away from him as possible. My face was probably covered in emotions, because he softened as he saw my expression. "Ali, darling, just come over here."
He hugged me tightly as I teared up over his shoulder, Oscar cupped my face in his hands softly and kissed my head gently. "I'm sorry. Should've never had suspected you for your defence, I just got a bit mad back there."
"You had a reason to," He rubbed my back softly as I stood on my toes and planted a kiss on his lips. "I love you, Ali." I started to get tired as I placed my head on his shoulder, and yawned silently. Oscar chuckled and kissed my forehead.
"You're cute when you're tired," I looked up lazily at a yawning Oscar, who smiled and passed his hands through my hair. "Go to sleep, Piastri."
"That'll be your last name soon." He whispered into my ear and stalked into the bedroom and I sighed and shook my head annoyingly.
