Arya walked with her head high down the halls. She knew plain and simply confidence meant everything around here.
She made a sharp turn down the hall and past the library where she exchanged a quick good morning with the librarian before making her way up the stairs.
She just barely made it to her AP Chemistry class when the late bell rang. A smile crept on her face when she passed her teacher. She passed the group of nerdy kids in her class and between the jocks of the class as well, setting her binder and pencil down on a free desk off to the side and rested her other belongings at her feet.
She sat down just as her teacher, Mrs. Milligan made her way to the board. She was an older lady, loud and wise. Especially for her age. She had on a polka dot shirt, with a skirt that just touched at her kneecaps and, a pair of black flats. Arya always felt Mrs. M.'s outfits went just right with the class she taught and the way she spoke.
As always, they were assigned some paperwork before they could start their last experiment in the class. Arya wrote her name at the top of the paper, opening her textbook to the first page assigned and began to read and answer the different questions in the packet that was handed out.
Before she knew it the bell had rang for second period. Arya gathered all her belongings, saying her hellos to everyone in the halls on her way back down the steps to history class. She was what people might call popular but, she knew she was kind enough to meet her own criteria of being the good kind of popular that others would enjoy.
Just then, Scarlett walked past, eyeing Arya up and down. Arya never hesitated to stand up to Scarlett. They had hated each other since freshman year. Or at least Scarlett hated her. She had no idea that Scarlett had been dating the guy she hooked up with at a party one night over the summer before their freshman year and when Scarlett found out, she went insane.
Arya and Scarlett had been decently good friends before that, so she could understand why Scarlett might feel hurt by Arya sleeping with one of the guys she was dating.
The two used to spend summers together at Scarlett's house by the pool, laughing and making YouTube videos that they hoped would one day make them famous.
She hated to say it, but she wasn't that affected by her and Scarlett not being friends anymore. She had always felt that Scarlett weighed her down in some ways, especially when her parents got a divorce.
Scarlett would purposely go out of her way to make comments about how her parents were so in love. Which really took a toll on her. Arya would go home those nights, run upstairs, and cry herself to sleep until she woke up the next morning with a pounding headache.
After that last night, she distanced herself from Scarlett, in hopes she would get the hint. Yet, somehow, she never did and just went back to pretending Arya didn't exist.
So, when she had found out Arya had slept with her boyfriend, it was just an extra excuse to hate her and have a reason now that high school was starting.Despite of it being their senior year, Scarlett seemed to never let it go, which Arya didn't mind anymore. It slipped her mind, and she grew to hate Scarlett just as much.
Everyone else found Scarlett to be scary but Arya knew her soft spots since they spent so much time together.
"Eye me up and down again and I'll introduce you to the bumper of my car."
She smiled at Scarlett, so she felt personally attacked and continued her way with laughter following behind her. Scarlett may trick everyone else with her emerald, green eyes and always looking as if she was ready for a photo shoot in any brief moment you saw her but other than that she was just what other people let go unnoticed, a spoiled, insecure girl who believed she was better than everyone else. And more than anything was that false.
