It was the next day, a sunny Wednesday, and at 9.50 a. m. James was waiting outside the door of the cafe.
Regulus expected him to be late, so he looked at him with surprise when he found him already there, waiting for him.
"Hi" was all Regulus was able to say, but can you blame him? He had in front of himself James Potter, the James Potter, with messy dark hair, big brown eyes and the cutest smile in the world, his cheeks a bit red and his eyes were shining behind his stupid glasses. Oh, how Regulus loved his stupid glasses.
"Hi" James smiled at him, he was just genuinelly beautiful, with the rays of the sun illuminating his wonderful face that seemed carved in marble.
They didn't say anything else, James just held the door for Regulus as they walked in the cafe. God, did he even know how nice that was? Regulus definitely knew.
"So, uhm...how was your day?" James asked as he moved the chair to help him to sit down. Regulus was dying inside.
"Considering it has just started, it could have been worse." Regulus said and you could hear the smile in his words, he was just happy to see James. What a shame.
"Well, I'm sure it got better since you saw me." James smirked at him. 'Yes.' Regulus almost said.
"If you're so sure..." Regulus said instead and he raised his eyebrows in a sarcastic way.
"Have you heard about the rumors about us? It's kind of funny right? I mean they saw us together once and now we're the 'Perfect couple'." James laughed drinking his coffee. The words almost hurt Regulus.
"Yeah...pathetic right?" but Regulus was the pathetic one, wishing his childhood crush would finally notice him and fall in love with him.
They spent over a hour talking to each other, laughing and blushing at every word the other said. It was now time to go home but paparazzi were everywhere.
"Oh shit." Regulus looked around and saw about ten people waiting for them to come out of the cafe.
Luckly, James had thought about everything. In the back of the cafe there was a car with tinted windows waiting for them, so they got into the car with no one noticing.
"Lets be clear Potter, I won't be yours and your boyfriend's getaway car ever again. Next time, you can go fuck yourself. Got it?" a female voice said from the driver's seat.
"It's a pleasure to see you too Lils. And thank you so much to offer your help every time." James smiled at the redhead, who flipped him off in response.
"Hi, I'm Regulus." Regulus felt the need to say something, so he introduced himself.
"Yeah, I know, everybody knows! I'm Lily by the way, Lily Evans. I'm the Marauders manager and apparently now I'm also your personal chauffeur." the girl rolled her eyes and began to drive. At one point James shouted to stop and run off the car. He returned in five minutes with some chocolate bars and some licorice.
"Who are those for?" Regulus asked curious.
"Those are for Sirius, you know he's been feeling a little low these days after what happened, so I thought I should bring him some chocolate since he likes it, to cheer him up." Regulus smiled at the view of James' genuine happiness about making his friend feel better, it was adorable.
"And the licorice?" he asked again, this time looking directly into the other boy's brown eyes.
"Oh, it's for you, it's your favourite right? I remember Sirius once told me you loved it when we were still in school. Is it still your favourite?" James questioned, handing the licorice to the boy infront of him, who was speachless.
"You remembered?" Regulus said shooked, and also happy. He remembered such a little detail about him that his brother brought up once in high school, it was actually so sweet.
"Of course I do! How could I forget!" James stated, and both the boys couldn't stop smiling.
The rest of the ride was very silent, even though Regulus couldn't stop thinking about the fact that James' hand was dangerously close to his. In a short time they arrived in front of Regulus' apartment and he opened the car door.
"Thank you for the nice morning James, and for the licorice. And thank you for the ride, Lily. I'll see you around." he was getting off of the car when James stopped him by grabbing his wrist and forcing him to turn around and face him.
"Wait! Uhm...it was nice today, maybe we could do it again...if you want to..." James gave him a shy smile and Regulus noticed his cheeks getting a bit pink.
"Well, we'll see. Oh wait, I almost forgot!" and Regulus proceeded to take off the jacket that belonged to James.
"I assume this one is yours." The younger one said with a small smile on his lips as he handed James his jacket back. But James stopped him.
"Keep it, it looks better on you anyway." and that made Regulus cheeks of a very visible shade of red.
"That's a lie, red is definitely not my color." he said rolling his eyes but the corners of his mouth were slightly curved.
"I don't think so, you look very pretty with my jacket. Altrought, you look always pretty." you couldn't tell who was redder, if the jacket or the two boys.
"You're sure?" Regulus aked shyly. James nodded. They both smiled. Lily honked the car horn.
"Okay loverboys, it's time to go. James kiss your boyfriend goodbye and lets go home before Sirius sends a search party." Lily said, making the two boys blush even more.
"Yeah, I better go." Regulus said withouth breaking the eye contact with James.
"Yeah, I guess I'll see you around then." James smiled looking into Regulus' eyes.
"Yeah, bye Regulus!" Lily yelled and turned on the car.
Regulus opened the door of his apartment not expecting to find Barty lying on Regulus' favourite couch.
He regretted giving each of his friends spare keys."What the hell are you doing in my house!?"
"Seems like we've got more in common than what we thought my dear. I just got kicked out of the house by my so called father, so apparently you're stuck with me." Barty laughed, but Regulus knew. He knew that Barty was not even remotely in the mood to laugh, it was just his way of dealing with something that had hurt him. If something had happened to him, he would've just laughed it off and joked around. But Regulus knew Barty better than anyone else, so he didn't say anything, but he made his way to the freezer and took some ice cream. Then he took two spoons and he sat on the sofa, motioning for Barty to do the same, and he landed him a spoon and the ice cream. They sat in silence eating ice cream and Barty leaned his head onto Regulus' shoulder. If it would've been anyone else, he would've punched them in the face, but it was Barty, so it was fine.
