Two days after my 23rd birthday, we get married at a small venue in our hometown, surrounded by our loved ones and everything we've ever needed. I recall the moment I had asked Delilah to marry me, she was so thrown off by it.
My sudden proposal had no ring or special words, simply pure intentions. And she had taken ten seconds to think it over before she had told me, "of course I'll marry you."
There isn't much of a happy tale with how many of my loved ones reacted to the news, in particular Nina, who had asked me if I was insane. I said I was, and eventually, she accepted it.
As she hands me my ring in front of our crowd, she still seems hesitant but she doesn't make a dramatic objection in front of everyone or question it anymore. She wants to believe in us, she really hopes for the best.
Her view of love may be covered by a dark cloud, considering her boyfriend had left her a few months ago. I had invited Dash to the wedding since he was still my friend, and that had stirred some annoyance from her. I notice her glancing over at Dash in the last row of chairs, and she bites her lip as she watches me get married, a dream she had for herself with him.
What she doesn't know is that her dream can still happen, and I've spoken with Dash right before this, who made it clear that he had plans to ask for her hand after our wedding. It's the second time I've kept a secret from Nina, but I think that this time, she'll appreciate it.
Sometimes people break up for the wrong reasons. In their case, it was the distance as Dash had accepted a job multiple states away from her. They didn't want to hold each other back, but Dash has found a way to be by her side.
This is their fate, and I know that the next wedding I'll be attending is theirs.
A distant voice calls out, "and now, the brides may kiss" and that wakes me up from my forgotten trance.
Delilah and I kiss in front of everyone, and my hands are wrapped tightly on her lace-covered arms. We make the walk down the middle of the aisle together, hands held together and smiles plastered across our faces.
At one point, I almost trip on the fabric of her long white ballgown, and I'm sure that the videographer has caught that moment. It'll be one we'll look back on and laugh at.
I focus on my own dress as we make our way out of the wide room, and we get ready for the next part of our celebration.
Sanna's waiting for me in my fitting room, and asks if I'm ready to party. She helps me change into a short white dress, and I take a break with her. As my second maid of honor, she wants to make sure there's no mistakes in my special day and reminds me of the time we have to be back at.
"I'm very aware of what time we should be back, I just need to take a few to breathe. Delilah can be early and wait for me if she wants to."
She laughs, and says, "I can't believe you just got married! And it's all thanks to me."
I laugh this time, she'll never get over that. I'm sure that if she hadn't been the one to introduce her back into my life, we would have found each other another way.
In this universe though, it is thanks to her.
"Thank you again, Sanna. Do you want a cash prize?"
"It would be appreciated now that you're married to a millionaire."
"She's not a millionaire, her parents are. And, last time I checked, they're not ever going to give us any money."
I don't even think that they know we're married, I doubt they even care about Delilah enough to investigate. Which, I know affects Delilah. She'll sometimes tell me that she wishes she still had a relationship with her parents similar to my own relationship with my parents, even though she knows it's for the best.
