The welcome party music blasted in my ears, drowning out my own thoughts. The only thing I could make out over it was the sound of people mingling and chattering. I seriously considered turning back to my dorm.
The first thing I'd noticed was the extravagant balloons and signs filling the room. Blue and purple lights were cast across the whole space, as well as rose covered wallpapers for photos in the back. There were many tables with pretty pink flowers in vases, and on many of them were fancy glasses holding drinks that I prayed was champagne.
Huh. I thought, slightly impressed.
Suppressing a sigh, I wove my way through the crowd, trying to make friends all the while. i introduced myself to people, made connections, talked about class... and asked questions about a certain someone.
My efforts went from a subtle, Isn't there this boy named Min Ho who goes to this school? No way! Have you seen him? To an interrogation. Who is he? Is he fine??
Finally, I just started straight up asking people. It started sounding like I had a desperate crush on the guy (so just kill me now).
"Does anyone know where Min Ho is?" I asked, trying not to let my irritation slip through as I approached two tall boys occupying a table. If I have to say "Min Ho" one more time...
At the sound of my voice, they both turned around and paused. They exchanged a surprised, contemplative glance that screamed yes.
"YYYOU!"
I couldn't help but gasp, narrowing my eyes as realization stunned my brain. For some reason, my heart pounded a little faster upon meeting the boy's gaze. The noise in the room and everyone else seemed to fall away... because of my anger.
"You're the guy from the airport!" I exclaimed in revelation. And it was him. The same boy—the annoyingly dismissive, good-looking, ill-mannered boy.
The rude airport boy glared at me. "Did you really follow me all the way into KISS? Is that how much you want to be near me?" He turned to the other boy with a scoff. "See? The sasaengs get worse every year."
His voice was dripping with disdain, as if I were a random fangirl seeking his attention. People talking down to me had always been one of my pet peeves, and the way he'd treated me was infuriating.
"I go here, actually," I retorted. "And I knew you spoke English!"
Beside him was a guy with curly brown hair, raised eyebrows, and a mischievous glint in his eyes as he listened. He cut the rude boy off with a laugh, patting his friend's shoulder with a teasing smile. "Busteddd."
The rude boy scoffed. "OKAY, okay, in my defense—"
"Welcome to KISS," the other guy interjected to me, clearly amused by the tension between us. "I'm Q. And don't feel bad. He loves to pull this move on people. He did it to me the first time we met."
"Oh, hi, Q. I'm—"
Suddenly, without warning, my friend Kitty came charging in our direction. There was a wild look in her eyes as she spotted me, and I contemplated running.
"Hey __!" she exclaimed, her voice a little higher than usual. "There you are. Listen, I need your help finding my boyfriend— is that the guy from the airport??" she shrieked, her eyes growing wide.
I couldn't help but roll my eyes, a frown tugging at my lips. "Yeah, unfortu—"
I was going to finish my perfectly agreeable sentence before Q hushed me and waved his hand in the air, quickly cutting me off. "Stop for a second," he stated with a grin. "Look at our boy Dae!"
