After the school day ended, I headed to the library to start tutoring other students. Sadly, I was not paired up with Kitty.
Dae was.
"Are you sure it's okay?" I asked her skeptically when I saw her heading to his table.
"It's okay, I can handle it," she answered.
I didn't think she could handle it.
Deciding Kitty was on her own for this one, I turned my attention to my assignment: a boy named Ray. I'd heard the name before— he wasn't exactly a nobody at this school.
Ray was practically famous, standing out in a student body that contained public figures like Min Ho, Yuri, and (now) Dae. He was tall, with dark eyes that always had a mischievous glow and messy black hair. Conventionally speaking, he was good-looking. He was Mihee's brother, one of Yuri's best friends.
I approached him, setting my textbooks down. "Hi, I'm __. Your tutor. Are you Mihee's brother?"
Ray looked up from his phone and gave me a smile. "Yeah. How are you?"
"I'm good."
"Cool."
"So..." I hesitated, sliding into the chair across from him. "What do you need help with the most?"
"Nothing," he replied casually, "but Professor Lee would say everything."
That much was clear. Ray, I learned, was a very laidback person. Although his grades barely allowed him to stay enrolled, it was refreshing to have someone around who wasn't obsessed with their studies.
"Wouldn't you get kicked out with these scores?" I asked, amused, as I studied his report card from last year.
"No, I have nepotism. My dad is business partners with Mr. Han," he replied. "It'd be very bad for business, you see." He flashed a smile at me.
"Yeah, don't worry, I'm familiar enough with nepotism. My mom made me come here."
"Oh, really? Who is she?"
I'm not writing her mummy's name another time
Ray immediately sat upright, his eyes now sparking with curiosity. "Damn. Hey, also, most of my tutors get so mad at me the first session that they request a change. So this has been fun."
"Yeah, I didn't think I would enjoy tutoring, but it could be worse," I agreed with a laugh.
He smiled at me. "We should hangout outside of school."
"Oh, yeah, sure."
"Tonight, maybe? This is a coincidence, because I'm actually hosting a party to celebrate coming back to school. You should come."
"Who'll be there?"
"Half the school."
"Which half of the school?"
He smiled lazily. "The better half."
The bass of the music seemed to pulse to the beat of my heart as I stepped into the packed venue. Blinding strobe lights painted the crowd in flashes of color, and the faint tang of perfume and possibly alcohol lingered in the air.
"__?" a smooth voice cut through the air, loud enough to rise above the music. I turned just in time to see Min Ho weaving through a pack of people. He looked as well-put-together and expensive as ever, though the discontent on his face upon seeing me made him considerably less attractive to me. "What in the world are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same thing," I shot back at him.
He gestured to himself like something was painfully obvious. "Um, hello?? My mom is a movie star. Of course I'm at a party.
