__'s POV
"If you've done well all semester, you should have no issues with the final. It is fair. Hard, but fair."
Professor Lee was lecturing us about finals the next day. I was preoccupied wondering how many times he got with Professor Lin.
Kitty raised her hand.
"What if you have not done well all semester?"
He stared her down. "Probable doom."
Fair enough.
"However, I am not unreasonable. Any student of mine who chooses to participate in the end-of-year talent show will receive a bonus ten points on their lowest grade."
An instant ripple of murmuring broke out among the students.
"Oh, good, I just learned a new TikTok dance," Mihee spoke.
Eunice perked up eagerly. "I can juggle!"
Professor Lee looked professionally disturbed. "No. No. You must perform a traditional Korean art form with dignity."
Eunice slumped down again.
When he turned around to rummage through his lesson notes, giving us time to talk amongst ourselves, Yuri crawled sneakily over to Kitty and I.
"Hey. My mom made me take fan dance lessons forever. I can teach you guys."
"My mom made me take dance forever too," I added excitedly. "I was in a show where I had to dance, once."
"Wait, who was the male lead?"
"*insert a celebrity crush who doesn't have more than a ten year age gap with you*"
"It comes out next year," I added.
Yuri laughed, before turning her attention promptly to Kitty.
She forced a smile back. "Right, about the dancing. With you. Which is great."
"Great! We'll practice after class!"
I facepalmed at Kitty as Yuri scurried back to her seat.
"Can't you at least act straight?" I whispered into her ear.
"I am acting straight! I mean, I'm acting straight because I am straight!" She whisper-yelled back at me.
Thankfully, Dae wasn't listening.
"So the idea of this is the fans, the Hanbok we wear, the choreography, and the music all come together to create the image of butterflies and flowers in spring."
Yuri was explaining to us the idea behind traditional Korean folk dance. I had to admit, it was pretty cool.
"It's beautiful." I commented, and Kitty nodded her agreement.
"It's like this." Yuri went over and directed Kitty's hand movements. "Open, close. Open, close."
Kitty slo-mo turned to stare and blink and admire her being so close. I sighed to myself.
This is hard to watch.
She suddenly pulled away, obviously snapping out of her daze.
"What?" Yuri asked.
"I'm... nervous."
Oh, wow. Smooth excuse.
"Whatever." Yuri joked, "It's only the whole school watching."
Mmm I don't think she's nervous about that.
A smile spread slowly across Kitty's face.
Seeing her mood lift, Yuri went on. "Come on, Kitty. It can't be worse than that time you fell into those cupcakes."
I laughed out loud. "Oh yeah, that was pretty bad."
They both stared at me.
I put my hands on my hips. "What? I can't say it was bad? Because it was bad. Were you there? It was bad."
"Not the point, __," Yuri laughed.
I grinned. "It was funny, though."
Like I expected, Kitty laughed along with us. "Yeah, it was funny. But a lot has changed since then"
Yuri sighed and walked towards her, taking her hands and staring deep into her eyes. "Kitty, you are the girl who flew halfway across the world to go after what she wants. What could possibly make you nervous?"
"You."
Oh, great, here we go.
"Me? Why would I make you nervous?"
Um, guys? I'm still here? Wait, am I the third wheel now?!
Suddenly, an incoming call from Yuri's phone interrupted the conversation. She took it out of her pocket, and I saw that it read "Baby." Julianna!
"Oh, do you want to get that?"
"Um, it's okay. I'll call later. You're more important to me right now." Yuri answered, hanging up and shoving the phone back.
She started fixing Kitty's hair, just in a general way, not that Kitty could see it like that. "I need you to get this dance down. You need that extra credit. I can't lose you now."
"I can't lose you either."
Oh, yeah, I'm definitely the third wheel, I thought as I awkwardly continued practicing my fan movements.
They had a cute little sparks fly moment.
Kitty moved closer to her.
You're seriously shooting your shot NOW?
She moved closer.
Yep, yep, she's aiming for it.
Yuri blinked, obviously not comprehending what was going on. "Kitty, what are you...?"
The door burst open at that moment, because suddenly Madison and the others decided to arrive. Kitty and Yuri's cute little sparks fly moment snapped in half as they turned to the door.
I exhaled sharply. Is that what it's like every time Min Ho and I get interrupted?
"Sorry we're late," Madison called, taking off her shoes with Eunice and Mihee.
I saw how awkward Kitty and Yuri had suddenly gotten, and decided to take rehearsal into my own hands.
"Okay great, everyone's here. Let's start." I announced, stepping to the center of the room. Yuri let me, as she was still occupied with her sudden existential crisis thoughts.
Madison, Mihee, and Eunice all grabbed their fans and lined up behind me as I went over the plan.
"First, we'll learn the movements, and then we can figure out the dance spacing, maybe if we have time put together costumes, and clean choreography tomorrow..."
