"Hey, you're the..."
"Portland Stalker, yeah." Kitty finished, "I earned myself a serial killer name on Day 1."
Q exhaled worriedly. "You know, I really shouldn't be talking to you. I gotta stay Team Dae."
"Please, Q. You shouldn't be talking to me either then, because I'm Team Kitty." I shot back. Kitty beamed at me proudly. Q's face became even more confused.
"Does Team Dae know he and I have been dating for years, and the whole Yuri thing is weird and probably fake?" Kitty questioned.
"Weird, yes. But fake? Come on, life ain't a k-drama.."
As Dae walked in the cafeteria, Kitty's gaze bore into him unashamedly. I could see the slo-mo montage accompanied by background music in her eyes.
Great. Let me give her a few minutes, I thought, amused.
Kitty snapped back to the present, glaring in Dae and Yuri's direction. "You saw the heat crackling between us this morning, right?" Kitty asked. "We were seconds away from kissing."
Q shrugged, taking a bite out of his lunch. "Maybe he's torn and confused."
I shrugged too. "Maybe he was gonna kiss you because he felt bad for you."
"He's not confused; he's miserable," Kitty stated. She gestured to their table as Yuri fixed his hair all lovey dovey. All the other girls at the table were doting over the two.
Poor guy, I thought. Haha. Serves him right.
"I know what I'm talking about, trust me," Kitty added confidently. "My sister, Lara Jean, was in a fake relationship with her boyfriend, Peter. Kind of my fault, then it turned real, and they're still together."
She smiled to herself at the memory (Kitty had a tendency to forget there were people around her), before the happy face vanished. "But that's not gonna happen with Yuri and Dae. I know. I'm a matchmaker."
"Yeah, you're good at setting things on fire." I whispered so she couldn't hear.
Q yawned, which was real. Kitty's eyebrows furrowed, and she glimpsed over her shoulder to see another boy yawning.
"Okay, I still don't—" he began.
"You like him." Kitty remarked straightforwardly. The seriousness in her eyes turned into a playful glint.
"Florian? No, no."
I grinned. "And I thought I was a bad liar."
Kitty matched my enthusiasm. "He was just yawning, then you yawned, and yawns are contagious, so..."
"He's an elitist. He thinks not liking Marvel movies is a personality."
"Well, you're hot, he's hot, let's move into it!" Kitty exclaimed like it was a logical fact and beginning to stand up.
"Ah... I mean I don't think—" Q started.
"Come on, let me help you." Kitty pleaded.
"Thank you, but no thank you." Q refused tactfully. He slung his bag around his shoulder quickly, though there was a ghost of a smile on his face. "I'll see you guys later."
We said goodbye to him just as the bell rang, signaling the end of the lunch period. We dumped our trays and headed out the cafeteria to our next class.
"What do you have?" Kitty asked me.
"Chem Honors." Kill me now.
"Really?" She questioned, excitedly taking out her schedule to compare with mine. "Me too!"
