As the realization settled in she turned her head toward the door.
Slamming the door behind her she ran to his office. As she passed the kids at camp, they grew curious as children naturally do.
Running down the path she thought about how she would approach him. But that was all thrown out the window the moment she saw his office. Filled with anger she slammed the wooden door open. It was not the first time, unfortunate for the door.
"You have it." She said as she caught her breath.
Before either of them could speak further. The window was shattered open. Looking at the shattered window whatever black monstrosity was crawling in melted at his gaze.
Startled, it took a second for her to regain her bearings. "I forgot you could do that."
"I rarely do it."
The calmness of his voice usually calmed her now unsettled her at that moment.
Standing up she stared at the window still covered in its liquid. She felt like she should apologize for interrupting but the words died on her lips. Her eyes drifted away from the window and toward him. His posture had changed he stood tall, shoulders back. His eyes closed he seemed to relax even more.
His voice interrupted her thoughts. "Are you alright?" She could barely register the tone before it disappeared again. "You look pale."
She hadn't realized she was pale until then. Turning around she went over to him grabbing his hands and pulling him close."What...?" He looked down at her confused.
They were hugging.
"Sorry. I just-..."
"You were angry just a second ago."
... She had been?
They pulled apart as she looked down. Then looked up again.
He raised an eyebrow questioningly as if expecting an explanation.
Not wanting to disappoint him she began talking. "That thing, whatever it was... it broke through the window.""Yes, so it seemed."
"But how?" Her voice rose.
"Magic."
Looking confused again she couldn't believe him. What kind of response was that!? He even did the sparkle-wavy gesture with his hands! ... That was a terrible description.
Still confused she asked. "And you aren't upset by this?"
"Why would I be upset?" He sounded puzzled again and she wanted to punch him.
She moved away from him standing across from him.
She wasn't sure what else to say. This is why she didn't talk much. She always ended up saying something stupid.
"Do you need anything?"
She froze at the unexpected question. "Oh no, I'm fine." She managed to get out.
There was silence. They both stood silently waiting for the other to say something.
And they continued to wait. Starting at each other. It was awkward.
"So." he began. "What did you come storming in here for?"
She looked down, embarrassed. He always made her feel like that after whatever temper tantrum she would have. It reminded her of how a parent could endlessly embarrass their child in front of their friends. That irritates her.
