There was a staple in my oatmeal.
A small, sharp, easy-to-swallow-and-choke-on staple from a staple gun, in my oatmeal I ate for breakfast this morning. I heated up the oats, added my honey, my brown sugar, my fresh sliced berries and cold cream, took a bite, and chomped down onto metal, puncturing a part of my gum.
Oh, and it gets worse.
That was just the start of my bad luck.
After I'd taken Chucky on his mile walk, where he had free roam to do his business, he came home, walked into my room, squatted on my floor and took a massive poo right on my rug—staring me dead in the face with his teenage moody mutt attitude like it was what I deserved.
Then... I put on my favorite Chanel pumps, took two steps in them, and felt one heel, snap right off. A clean, cut break.
I hit my finger against the big wooden door to the library and painfully broke an acrylic to the point of bleeding. And then I cut that same finger with a knife trying to slice tomatoes for a salad for lunch.
I dropped one of my gold rings in the toilet.
As it was flushing.
Buffy, Alanis's demon kitten, escaped her room and clawed up the side of my leopard print armchair.
I found a spider the size walnut in my car on my way to the salon.
I missed a signed package for a handmade gold sculpture of Medusa I've been waiting for since I went to Paris last summer and bought it.
And somehow, someway, a red sock slipped its' way into my load of laundry, and has turned all of my cream, white delicates, a splotchy peach pink.
I am so, absolutely, without a doubt, cursed.
Every single thing that could go wrong, has gone wrong.
And it's only four in the afternoon.
"We are gathered here today to mourn the life of Zara Porter. She was a beloved coworker to most of you, a dear friend to others, and a talented performer to us all." Fox preaches, standing underneath the icy Weeping Willow in the gardens behind the manor, while every tenant in the house stands before him and listens silently with their handkerchiefs at the ready.
I sneak up next to Daisy and hold her hand as she blots her red, bloodshot eyes. She gives me a sad smile and rests her head on my shoulder.
No one noticed I was late. Great!
Not the time.
"None of us saw this coming." He clears his throat, his eyes flowing through the crowd, "And I think it's safe to say that now, more than ever, we need to look out for each other because only you and your peers know just how much this job can take a toll on your health."
