49. The Divine Move

After that, Mr. Argent sent Stiles away with Kira and her mother and coached us on giving the police statement. He told us to say that we were hanging out when 2 robbers came and tried to steal our car and they had some sharp metal things with them with which they wanted to attack me. Allison tried to save me but they got to her and she got severely stabbed then we called Mr. Argent first. Then he told us that if we ever got confused we had to say that everything happened very fast. Then Scott looked at him with teary eyes and asked how he was holding it together,

"It's what we do."

Mr. Argent said too shocked to mourn and then walked away. Soon police arrived there and took Lydia, Isaac, Scott and me to the station to record our statement.

After we narrated the whole story Mr. Argent had told us, to Deputy Parrish he looked at me,

"Is that everything? Ruth?"

He asked me and suddenly my mind went blank the Oni killing Allison was playing on the loop in my mind, I was thinking of different scenarios where if I had moved a little fast I would've saved her. Then Deputy Parrish repeated his question, so I looked at him as tears were streaming down my face. "I'm sorry. It all happened so fast." Then Dad came and sat next to me and hugged me.

After our Statement, I decided to go with Mr. Argent as I knew that even though he didn't show it he was hurting the most and I didn't want him to be alone. As we reached his place Mr. Argent opened the door but couldn't step in he just stood there for a few minutes until I came and held his hand and then guided him inside.

"I appreciate the concern, but you don't have to stay. I'll be alright. I've dealt with this before, I have a capacity and...an ability to compartmentalize my emotions."

He said while opening the front door for me. "But I don't." I sobbed as I turned towards him. He then closed the door and engulfed me in a hug and I sobbed in his arms. Soon the bell rang and when I opened the door it was Isaac.

"I know you needed a little time alone, but I was very worried about you and I just wanted to see you."

I smiled and kissed him, and then he came inside and to my surprise hugged Mr. Argent.

"I'm so sorry, that we failed to keep your daughter safe, but I promise you that we'll avenge her."

Mr. Argent took a deep breath and hugged him back. After that, Mr. Argent went into his office for some work while I went into Allison's room. As I sat on her bed, I took out the silver knife she gave me and played with it.

"Be careful with it honey, you have got enough cuts on yourself."

I heard someone say and when I looked up, Mr. Argent was standing in the doorway. "Where's Isaac?" I asked and he told me that Isaac was preparing some tea for him and me. He then took the knife from my hand,

"I remember when you two were learning you both had to bandage your fingers because they got so raw. But you both didn't give up, whenever one of you felt weak the other one became the strength, and together you both became pain my ass."

I laughed as he sat down next to me, and handed me the knife back. "She kept trying to say something." I said as I looked towards him. "She was trying to say something to us. She said that we have to tell you. She didn't get a chance to finish it, but I'm sure it was just that she loved you." Then I held his hand. "But before that, she kept saying somethin' about my knife."
