The one thing Ni-ki didn't understand was why, out of everyone, did Heeseung take him? And so, out of his curiosity, he had to ask.
"Heeseung hyung." He said seriously as he walked into the living room.
Heeseung turned around. "Yes, baby?" He was really confused, almost a bit nervous.
"I keep asking you this but you never tell me and I'm pretty tired of it. Why did you take me?" Ni-ki asked, sharply meeting Heeseung's gaze.
The older's eyes flickered away as he looked down at his feet. "Because...because I wanted to make up for something I did in the past." He admitted, fidgeting with his fingers.
"What do you mean?" Ni-ki asked. Heeseung took a deep breath and then sat down on the couch next to him. "In a past life, we used to be together." He said slowly.
Ni-ki looked at him with wide eyes, completely taken by surprise.
"You...you mean like a couple?" He stuttered.
Heeseung nodded. "Yes, we were in love. But something terrible happened." He hesitated, unsure of how to continue.
"What happened?" Ni-ki asked softly, sensing the pain in Heeseung's voice.
"You...you ended it, Ni-ki. You went to the bridge at midnight on our anniversary. I had one chance to be with you again. But to do that, I had to give up my immortality but still remain a a vampire." He quietly explained with tears streaming down his face.
Ni-ki felt a saddening pain in his heart after seeing how much Heeseung was suffering.
"But- but I didn't know that you wouldn't remember me and I was heartbroken and didn't know how to find you." He continued, "Until you entered my own castle with those two loud friends of yours."
"But how was it your fault that I...you know?" Ni-ki asked, not following.
"I- I still remember it vividly. I ran after you and grabbed your hand but couldn't hold onto your hand and I blame myself for not being able to save you." Heeseung explained, his eyes filling with tears.
Ni-ki's heart ached as he listened to his lover's confession. "But...I don't remember any of that." He said sadly.
"I know, I told you, remember? The only way I could be with you again was in a future life. Except the consequences were you wouldn't remember me and I wouldn't be immortal." He muttered.
"That's why I want to protect you this time around. I don't want to lose you again." Heeseung said, taking Ni-ki's hand in his.
Ni-ki looked down at their intertwined hands and felt a strange sense of comfort. Heeseung's love for him was so intense and passionate. Despite not remembering their past, Ni-ki knew that they were meant to be together.
"Don't worry, I won't be going anywhere anytime soon, hyung." Ni-ki said with a soft smile. Heeseung looked at him with tears rolling down his face. "You better be promising that." He said with a smile.
Ni-ki nodded.
"I promise."
