When they reached the river, chunks of ice flowed through the river on the fast current with the frozen waterfall looming on the left. Peter held Rosie and Lucy's hands as he made his way down the bank, but Susan grabbed his arm. "We need to cross now." Peter urged.
"Don't beavers make dams?" Lucy asked, trying to think of any other solutions.
"I'm not that fast, dear." Mr. Beaver asserted.
"Come on!" Peter hurried.
"Wait! Will you just think about this for a minute?" Susan asked
"We don't have a minute."
"I'm just trying to be realistic." Susan argued.
"No, you're trying to be smart. As usual."
"We can't be realistic yet." Rosie informed Susan, holding her sister's hand before they followed Peter and Lucy. Peter put a foot down on the ice, causing water to spurt up from under.
"Wait! Maybe I should go first." Mr. Beaver offered, which Peter quickly agreed, "Maybe you should."
Mr. Beaver started to test the ice with his feet and tail, "You've been sneaking second helpings, haven't you?"Mrs. Beaver asked as her and the Pevensies slowly followed behind.
"Well, you never know which meal's gonna be your last. Especially with your cooking."
"If Mum knew what we were doing-" Susan stated making Rosie stop for a bit, only for Lucy to hold her hand. Rosie quickly glanced up at Lucy, who shook her head, implying to ignore Susan.
"Mum's not here." Peter simply retorted. Rosie thought about it, quickly agreeing with Peter.
"Oh no!" Rosie looked up and saw the wolves running across the top of the frozen waterfall to the other side of the river.
"Run!"
"Hurry!"
The wolves then leaped in front of them. Rosie looked behind and saw the rest of the pact behind them, making her hold onto Peter's coat, as they were surrounded. Mr. Beaver hissed at one of the wolves, almost clawing at him but he was immediately pounced on and pinned to the ground.
"No!" Mrs. Beaver called out as Rosie held onto her.
"Peter!" Lucy called out worried, causing Peter to draw his sword out and point it at the wolves.
"Put that down, boy. Someone could get hurt." Rosie was immediately informed that this was the Chief of the secret police, Maugrim. This was who she saw back at Mr. Tumnus' house.
"Don't worry about me! Run him through!" Mr. Beaver yelled with Rosie keeping her attention on him. She glared at the wolf hurting Mr. Beaver, when suddenly the wolf shook in pain. Rosie furrowed her eyebrows and realized it was her doing, which made her stop for a second. It was until the wolf growled down at Mr. Beaver, causing Rosie to act quickly again, slightly hurting the wolf. She felt terrible for hurting animals, but she needed to, in order to save her friend.
