One year ago.

JANELLE WAS BUNDLED UP in her bed covers, snoring the morning away. Her alarm was going off. Her older sister, Kanai, slams open the door "Wake yo ass up!" Kanai hits Janelle in her face with a pillow

Janelle held her nose in pain. "What the hell, Kanai?!"

"Your alarm is going off, Janelle. Meaning get your ass up!" She yelled. "Lanae, I know you didn't just smack me with my own pillow" Janelle said

"Uh first off, don't call me by my middle name. Second, your little boyfriend is out on the stairs waiting for you!" Kanai shouted. Janelle sat up confused "Boyfriend?"

Janelle's mind went spiral, trying to figure out who her sister was talking about. Suddenly it clicked "You talking about Tyre?"

Kanai raised her eyebrows "Oh so there's more than one dude?" Janelle shook her head "Tyre is just a friend and whatchu mean more? I am not a hoe"

"But you know what you are? Late for school! Now get up!" Kanai pushed Janelle's off her bed, along with her covers. Kanai left the room and left the door open "And don't take up the bathroom, I have a client coming in 30 minutes"

Janelle groans loudly "Papatayin ko siya" (im going to kill her). "I heard that!" Kanai yells from the living room.

Janelle gets up and makes her bed as part of her wake up routine. Her feet carries her to the bathroom, she yawned as she turns on the light. Janelle reaches for her Cetaphil face wash, as she applies it on her face, she takes off her pink bonnet revealing her hair

It was in a blobbed shape. She groans, annoyed at her hair. Underneath the sink was her hair tools; detangling brush, an actual brush, a rat tail comb, and a edge brush

After 5 minutes, she washes her face wash off. She quickly brushes her teeth and brushes her tongue, even though she has terrible gag reflexes. Janelle applies her Palmer's cocoa butter lotion on her face and body.

Time for the hair! Janelle searches on her phone looking for hairstyles to do. She finally opened the app Pinterest to find inspiration.

"Braid hairstyles" Janelle mumbled as she typed the words in. The results showed up but it wasn't what she was looking for "Braid hairstyles...black girl" Janelle mumbled again

Actual results popped up. She scrolled and scrolled until she found one she liked. It was two stitch braid with quick weave hairstyle but instead of quick weave, she is using her real hair

She parted her hair in the middle with her rat tail. "Tala, what do you want for breakfast?" Kanai calls for her. "Just pop a toaster strudel in the toaster but I want the cinnamon roll one!" Janelle responds
