"ALRIGHT, LINE UP!" A loud voice said. At The Academy of Excellence, the track and field team began practice. It was after school on a cloudy day, most kids were coming from talking to their teachers

The boys were on one side and the girls on the other. Janelle sat on the side, stretching her body out. She wore a sports bra with black spandex and running shoes. Her hair was tied into a low bun

"Today is pretty simple. Run two warmup laps and start doing warmup stretches. Then the hurdlers will go with Coach Byrnes, the sprinters with me, distance with Coach Hill and field with Coach Washington. After that, we do core and 2 cool down laps. I know it's homecoming week but we gotta get the work in. Got it?" Her coach explained

"Yes sir!" The athletes said in unison. The coach blew the whistle and all of them took off running. Janelle kept a fast but steady pace, she had her headphones on, listening to Loves Train by Silk Sonic

Behind her was Jayla and King. They were watching her. "She didn't say hi to us" King expressed. "The fuck is wrong with her? She acted too good for us three days ago and now she can't say hi" Jayla said

"I don't know but that one dude she hung out with totally blew off Tyre" King told her. Jayla didn't like that. "That's not okay. Hold on." Jayla sped up just a little bit to meet with Janelle

"Yo" Jayla greeted her. Janelle looked to the side to see her. "Oh hey, what's up?" Janelle said

"Nothing. What's up with you and Tyre? And with us?" Jayla asked. "Why do you ask?" Janelle said, getting suspicious. "Because you completely bailed on us" Jayla stated

"Woah. First off, I never bailed. I can make new friends and second, the phone goes both ways" Janelle told her

"I'm just saying. Your one friend telling Tyre off wasn't cool" Jayla said. Janelle paused, running slower. "What do you mean?"

"Your friend told Tyre to fuck off basically. I wouldn't do that to him, that's just so rude." Jayla said

Janelle thought about it, Hobie told Tyre to fuck off at the diner? She never would've thought that Hobie stood up for her...wait a damn minute

"What do you mean you wouldn't do that to him?" Janelle asked her friend. Jayla looked back at her "What?"

"You said you would never do that to him? You mean Tyre? You would never do that to Tyre?" Janelle started to get suspicious. Jayla's heart pounded, she said too much "Forget I said anything"

Jayla sped up just a little bit. Oh no you don't, Janelle thought. King saw the two girls basically speed-walking on the track, he was so confused
