The next day Lydia and Jamie stood at the foot of her bed and starred at in in dismay. "What do we do?"

She looked from him to the mattress now set at a precarious angle dipping towards the floor.

"Um. I have no idea. I've never had this happen before." Lydia looked back at the mattress. The slats under the bed had cracked in half splitting the frame in two. Her mattress was sliding off one side of the frame. They broke the bed. Well, technically he broke the bed. She had told him multiple times that it would happen. Her mother's voice popped into her head every time he came running towards her.

"Don't jump on the bed, it'll break."

Jamie leapt with abandon each time he came to her apartment, pouncing on her while she laughed with happiness and slight worry. She didn't mind his excitement, but she fretted over the already questionable bed frame they rested on. After numerous attempts, he had finally done it. With one great leap that morning, the bed cracked. They felt the snap and heard the schism forming beneath them but Lydia was too scared to check. She would need to replace her whole bed frame.

"Lyd, I'm so sorry." He ran his hands through his hair. He was in trouble.

"Seriously, don't worry about it. The bed was super cheap. It was bound to break sometime."

"Let me pay for it. Just call me when it's replaced and I'll help you put it together."

"I will. For now, I guess we're staying at yours?" She saw his brow furrow ever so slightly.

"Um. Yea of course. I can also help you move your mattress if you wanted to sleep here. We can take it off the frame." Lydia couldn't ignore his very clear desire to not have her stay with him. In the time they had been together for the second time, she had yet to go to his new place. They always came back to hers.

"No no, it's okay. I'm happy to go to Brooklyn." Jamie had moved into his own place and she was eager to see it. The promotion and salary bump from C.K. meant he could afford his own place. He had moved in months ago. She was surprised he still hadn't invited her over."

"I'm still getting the place ready. It's probably best if you stay here. I'll come over later and we'll figure out a game plan." He pecked her on the cheek.

"I've got to get to work but I'll see you later okay?" Was it her imagination or was he hustling out of her apartment?

"Um sure yea okay. I'll see you." She hesitated. "Jamie is everything okay? You got weird."

Jamie paused from gathering his things. "Yea of course. I'm all good I just feel bad about this. I'll text you later. I'm going to be late."

She watched as he made a quick exit. The front door opened and shut in under a minute. Sitting down on her slanted mattress she couldn't help but notice the feeling of questioning sitting in the pit of her stomach.

"Lydia, Lydia, Lydia."

She heard her name chanted through the phone as she sat snugly on her couch. She had been waiting for Jamie to come over like he had promised. She was worried when her phone rang well past his arrival time.

"Lyd, COME OUT. COME ONNNNN." Jamie's voice echoed on the other end of the line.

She was miffed. He hadn't texted her like he had said. She had let that go. He said he was coming over so she had assumed her would. When she picked up the phone and heard her name, she knew. He was wasted.

"I'm already in my pajamas J, just come over when you're done."

"BOOOOOOO." She held the phone away from her ear. He was practically yelling into it.
