Castiel Novak started that morning like any other. He shut off his alarm with a grunt and dragged him self out of his poorly made bed, squinting as the light pours in his scarcely decorated bedroom. Cas has never been really proud of his home, or more his bedroom, despite his fathers mass wealth, he never got around to redecorating the room after Cas' older brother Michael moved out. Because of that the cream, now tinged yellow, paint is crusting off all over and there's lighter patches where Michael's posters used to lay. Castiel has tried his best to lighten up the place, with posters of his own splashed about, he even went about getting new curtains to hang at the windows, but the place still has an old careless feel about it, much like Castiel himself.

"Come on Cassie get up or you're going to be late for your first day of your senior year" Gabriel jeers busting into his room and tackling Cas back onto the bed. Gabriel is the fourth Novak child, Castiel being the fifth, and he's by far Cas' favourite, Gabe finished high school last year but found a college close enough to home so that he wouldn't have to leave Cas alone, though he knows one day he will have to move out and Cas never stops worrying about it. Michael is the oldest, he moved out to go to college when Cas was just 4 and hasn't been back since, Cas wouldn't recognise him if he was stood right in front of him, he can't blame him though he'd be out of this place in a second if it were down to him. Lucifer is the second oldest and by far the worst in Cas' opinion, he, unlike his older sibling, did not move out to go to college, he got a job at a local bar and hadn't so much as bothered to look for his own place. Lucifer hates Cas as much as Cas doesn't like him, worse in fact, lucifer hates that Cas is the youngest, he had always been a jealous boy but it only intensified when Cas was born, he hates everything about him and he's never bothered to hide it, the bruises and scars will prove it. Anna is the third oldest, though through a slight indiscretion with Cas' mother and a secret lover, Anna holds a different last name to her brothers of Milton. Anna, after realising that the home wasn't a very healthy environment to live in, went to live with her real father across the state, though she still keeps in touch with her younger brothers and holds Cas especially close to her heart.

None of the Novak's ever had a healthy relationship with there father or much with each other either. He was gone most of the time, working away, but when he returned he wasn't afraid to get hands on with any of his children, especially Cas, he always took there mothers death out on Cas and because of that so did lucifer.

"I'm up, I'm up, calm yourself Gabriel" the youngest Novak laughs pushing his brother, who is now piled on top of him, off of him, laughing all the while. Gabriel was always Castiel's escape from his cruel life, he worshiped the ground his brother walked on and loved him eternally.

Cas yawned and stretched, eventually climbing out of bed, again, and dragging himself into the shower, turning the shower radio up slightly, but not loud enough to wake lucifer, singing along to the lyrics of I'm walking on sunshine while shampooing his messy hair, trying intensely hard not to get any in his eyes like he has done countless times before.

He pulled on his favourite pair of black skinny ripped jeans, sliding into his converse, a christmas present he had received from Anna last year, and slid into an oversized jumper, leaving his bed hair to stick up all over, he knows better than to try to fight it now it never does as he wishes anyways. He never really cares what he looks like, he doesn't have many friends to impress and usually couldn't care less what people think of him anyways. Excepting of course his long time best friend Jo Harvelle. He and Jo had met in freshman year at high school and have been inseparable since, she always has his back and it's not unusual for him to have to stay at her house after a beating from either his father or lucifer, the duo have lost track of how many times Jo's mother, Ellen, has threatened to call the police but eventually given in to Cas' pleas and let it slide, except for the one time that she mentioned it to Cas' father, Cas will never forget the extra beating he got for that, the indented scar on the back of his head wont let him forget. Besides it's not like people are going to pick him out for looking duller than usual.

"You ready to go baby bro?" Gabe asks "yeah" Cas smiles back "oh and here" Gabe smiles placing some money in his brothers hand "no, Gabe, you don't need to" Cas argues "yeah cause you mean otherwise father would give you some, you've got to eat Cassie, look at you you're practically skin and bones" he laughs closing Cas' hand around the money "thank you" Cas smiles softly putting the money inside his jean pocket along with his phone, a present from Gabe which he pays for along with his own every month. Cas never forgets what his siblings, especially Gabe do for him and he is eternally grateful for it. They get in the car and set off on the short drive to the school, Gabe agreed to drop Cas off on a morning before going to college, otherwise it meant lucifer driving him and Gabe tries to get Cas away from him at every possible chance.

Dean Winchester on the other hand was having to adjust to his new surroundings. He, his younger brother, Sam, and father, John, have just moved to the quaint town, roughly in the centre of Kansas.

John, since they're going to be here longer than usual, has bought a tiny, three bedroom run down house. Dean is thankful for it though, thankful that they don't have to spend another night in a shitty little motel but more thankful that he has his own room. He loves his little brother more than life itself but god does he get sick of being crammed into a room with him.

Dean, like Cas, doesn't have the best family situation. His mother died when he was just four years old, his father turned to drink to soothe his wounds and because of that often has a heavy hand, he moves them around from town to town, stating that he doesn't want the boys getting attached to people or places to have them ripped from them. Dean, being the oldest sibling, would and does do anything and everything to protect his little brother, there's been many a time that dean has taken an extra punch to spare Sammy the pain. It's even down to dean that they're in Kansas, he argued till he was blue in the face with his father that Sam needed a real education, a chance at a real life, it took beating after beating to convince him but he finally agreed, though it's not like John is going to stick around much to watch it fall into place.

It doesn't matter to Dean, none of it does, as long as Sam is safe he doesn't care. Bobby singer, an old friend of John's, offered dean a job at his garage, bobby knows exactly what John is like and though he doesn't agree with it there wasn't much he could do about it, at least now he can offer dean a job and make sure the boys have enough money to actually live, he hopes one day getting them out of that place, away from John.

"Dean come on we're going to be late" Sam huffs popping his head around the door to his older brothers room "I don't even know why you care Sammy" dean chuckles ruffling his brothers hair passing him to go down the stairs to there, as of yet, unfurnished house, dean knows he will more than likely have to do it when he gets home. "It's Sam" Sam automatically corrects him but just making dean laugh more.

Sam picks up the lunch that dean put out for him late last night, neither Winchester mentioning it, Sam pretending that he doesn't know it was dean who put it there and not John and dean pretending not to know that Sam knows. Words like that were often left unspoken by the duo, there relationship depended on it.

"Come on then, wouldn't want you to be late, bitch" dean chuckles picking up his back pack and again ruffling Sam's hair, much to his annoyance, Sam stamping out of the house behind him towards deans prized possession, his baby, the black 67 Chevy impala, that used to belong to John but was passed on to dean when he became of age. Dean likes to think it as the only nice thing his father ever did for him but in reality he knows that it was just so John wouldn't have to be burdened with driving his sons places, he'd much rather pass the responsibility to dean. "Jerk" Sam laughs shaking his head.

They both get into the car and after Sam complains for about the 100th time about the music, even after being told "driver picks the music shotgun shuts his cake hole Sammy" by dean for the countless time, they eventually head off to there new school.
