Cas and dean were both disappointed to find that neither of them had art that next day. For all the duo had other lessons together, it was art that was really bringing them closer, bonding over there shared project. Dean had worries tucked away right at the back of his mind, that Cas wouldn't want to speak to him anymore after the projects finished, but what dean didn't know is Cas was worried about the exact same thing.
The day had pretty much dragged for both boys and both were, for once, looking forward to going home. Cas is usually one of the first ones to leave with his friends, but today Jo and Charlie left while Cas went to his locker to collect his things.
"Oh boy look who it is" Cas heard the shrilling voice, he had managed to avoid up till this point "heya cassie" he sneers, azazel, the boy who has tormented Cas since freshman year "oh and look he doesn't have his little protector with him" he continues. Azazel gets up in Cas' face, dragging him by the collar so that his back is against the locker "so what you going to do Cassie?" He growls. Cas says nothing, he knows by now there isn't a point, he instead prepares himself for the inevitable, he's used to getting punched about, and by far worse than this creature stood in front of him, he knows he can take it.
Azazel brings his knee up to Cas' gut before his fists start at pounding into the smaller boy. "Enough!" Cas hears another voice bellow, he can't place it at first. It distracts azazel enough for him to turn around to see where it came from, giving Cas a chance to breathe again. "Leave us, this is no concern of yours" azazel growls to Cas' mysterious saviour, that however is when Cas sees him, not so much a mysterious saviour but knight in shining armour, dean Winchester.
"Oh but you see it is, now I suggest you let him go or I'm going to have to make you a concern of mine" dean growls to the bully, if it wasn't cas he was helping even he would be scared by this point. "Or what?" Azazel sneers, wrong move. Dean, in one move, has azazel on the floor, in a sleeper hold with a small knife held to his throat. Cas feels he should stop him but he can't bring himself to. "Now this is how this is going to work" dean growls "I'm going to let you go, you are going to get up and walk away and you are never, not ever, going to even think about so much as looking at cas again" he adds "and if I find out you touched him again, then I won't hesitate to kill you" he growls "are we clear?" He finishes. With a nod from azazel, or as much as he's able, dean lets go and stands up, brushing the dirt off of his clothing as if nothing had just happened.
Azazel skits away and dean finally turns his attention to the bloody face of Castiel sitting on the floor. "Are you alright?" Dean asks getting on the floor beside him his tone instantly softer "I'm fine" cas mutters slightly embarrassed that dean had to save him "you didn't have to do that" he adds. "And what let him pummel you? Why didn't you fight back?" Dean frowns "I've learnt not to" cas shrugs, the words send a chill down deans spine, he knows this type of behavior, he lives it. "Come on let's get you cleaned up" dean smiles standing up sticking out his hand for cas to take "no.. I urm.. I'll be fine" he whispers. Dean doesn't take no for an answer, he forces his hand and pulls him to his feet, cas silently noting how strong he is and the pulses of electricity that run through his body at deans touch.
The two walk in silence to the nurses station. All the teachers have long since gone home and only the cleaners remain, though none of them care enough to ask what happened. Cas sits on the seat inside the room while dean rummages around. He grabs some cotton swabs and puts some sort of alcoholic cleaning liquid on it, cas doesn't see what though. "This is going to sting" dean warns cas but of course cas already knows that. Dean is impressed by cas' intolerance to the stuff but it also concerns him, this isn't his first rodeo, he can tell. "So are you going to tell me why you carry a knife around?" Cas smirks trying to ignore the close proximity the two have found themselves in again. "How about I tell you over a pizza?" Dean smirks "we're finished here" he adds throwing the used swabs in the trash. "Pizza?" Cas asks standing up, the boys still toe to toe "yeah you know, that bread based thing with toppings on" dean smirks "I know what pizza is" cas huffs "great lets go then, I know a great place" dean smirks.
Not long later the boys pull up to the roadhouse. Cas recognizes it, but then how could he not, the bar belongs to Ellen and he has spent many a night here with Jo before. They head inside sitting at one of the booths, Ellen coming over not long later. "Well this is a duo asking for trouble" she laughs when she sees the boys sat together "hey Ellen" cas smiles "how are you kid?" She smiles back "I'm good, thank you" cas responds. Dean mentally face palms himself for not remembering that cas knows the Harvelle family. "How's your daddy?" Ellen turns to dean "he's.. Typical John" dean shrugs and Ellen shows her understanding with a nod, cas decides not to ask.
"So what can I get you boys?" She asks "urm we'll have the house special pizza with a side of fries and two beers please" dean grins answering for both of them "you're underage" she scoffs "yeah but it's quiet in here, no one will know" dean smirks "fine, fine" Ellen shakes her head walking away muttering something about loosing her license thanks to dumb kids. Regardless she brings the beers and then the pizza and fries over not long later.
Cas can't believe how amazing it all looks, he's never seen so much meat on a pizza in his entire life. Dean picks up a slice and cas watches as the cheese strings from it "dig in" dean smirks literally shoving the slice in his mouth. Cas copies dean, pulling up a slice and taking a large bite, the taste is overwhelming to him, he can't help the small moan that escapes his mouth, causing dean to almost choke on his slice and definitely having to adjust his pants. They munch there way through the pizza and the fries, leaving a couple slices that dean has wrapped up to take back for Sammy. Dean picks up the beer and takes a long swig, cas watching all the while. He picks his own up and looks in the top of the bottle funnily "never had beer before?" Dean asks and cas shakes his head. He hesitantly takes a drink and the bubbles find there way to the back of his throat. Cas is confused by the experience but takes another drink anyways, dean watching in amusement.
"So the knife?" Cas eventually asks "oh right" dean states, he's not ready to tell the whole story, he needs to keep himself to himself for now. "From being young I got taught to look after myself and look after Sammy" dean shrugs, not lying but not exactly telling the whole truth. Cas wants to ask more, he's desperate to in fact, but the reserved look in deans eyes tells him that he shouldn't. They call it a night soon after and dean pays the bill, even after cas arguments against it.
