Cathy Lane was a Scottish disk jockey and the cousin of actress Patty Lane.

Early life and marriage:

Lane was born Catherine Margaret Rowan Lane on February 3rd 1949 in Glasgow Scotland.

She grew up in a very fancy environment and was top of her classes in school.

She was also a very fluent linguist, particularly with Latin.

When she was fourteen years old, Lane moved to America to live with her identical cousin Patty, who later went on to be an actress and mental health advocate.

"It was a bit of a shock. Everyone I ran into thought I was Patty. Especially her then-boyfriend. Looking back, I laugh at how he thought I was Patty and kissed me. But then she and I realized that we were a fun pair and just stayed... on the beam, as she'd put it" said Lane in 2006.

In 1966, Lane moved to Australia with her cousin where she met America's first English dick jockey, Lord Tim Hudson.

"When I met him, he was selectively mute around women, which matched up with my slight shyness around men. He and I sort of bonded over that and... it went on from there" said Lane in 2017.

Lane and Hudson married in the spring of 1966 while her cousin married basketball legend Calvin O'Keeffe.

Career:

In her youth, Lane was a temporary disk jockey for her school, announcing a classical music program.

She stopped after she moved to Australia, but was motivated to try again upon marrying a well-known disk jockey.

"Tim was very well-known at the time. He kept encouraging me to jockey disks again and even promised me he'd find a classical one because I'm just not a fan of the kind of music he was advertising. So I did and I'm still a DJ now" said Lane in 2015.

Later life and death:

Lane's DJ career lasted until she retired in 2017.

Two years later, she suffered from a bronchial spasm and passed away on June 8th 2019.

Sir Paul McCartney, having suffered a bronchial spasm in the 70s, recalls how he felt after her passing.

"Cathy was a comforting presence. I didn't spend that much time with her, but when I did, she was very sweet to be around. I had a bronchial spasm in the 1970s and quite surprisingly survived. If only Cathy was lucky enough..." he said in 2020.
