hey guys, so this chapter is going to be something a little different: since in the last chapter O&M were able to translate the book, this chapter will strictly be an excerpt from the book.

I wasn't too sure about it at first but I think it's gonna be really important to the storyline.

thanks, enjoy ;)

The Siren's Legacy

Life as a Siren is anything but ordinary. I should know, my father is King Marinus, Lord of the Sirens. I honestly don't know why I'm writing this. Maybe because it may be used as a kind of time capsule for the future. Maybe to educate other cultures about ours. Or maybe... Though it seems ridiculous, this book could be the one the prophecy tells of. The thought that I, Princess Laguna of the Sirens, could write the book that leads to our salvation is both terrifying and amazing. On that note, I should probably tell what the prophecy is.

The Sirens must face their unknown past,
War will hit them at with a deadly blast.
When hope will seem all but gone,
Two saviors will come at the break of dawn,
The saviors, sisters, with pasts unknown,
Will be sent by a book made by one of the throne.
But, the saviors will come at a horrible cost,
One dear to the Sirens will be lost
The fate of the Sirens are in their hands,
It is up to them whether Jade Bay falls, or stands.

This prophecy has been around for longer than I have. And I am almost 200 years old now. When the Oracle first told us this prophecy, all of Jade Bay, our island, went crazy, because the last prophecy came true in a matter of days. After a month or so, people began to forget about it. Well, forget about it isn't the correct term. It became more like that pile of junk in the corner of your house that you don't want to clean up and try to ignore. It's a touchy topic among royalty, too, because they are annoyed that Jade Bay can't save themselves.

Enough about this prophecy. Onto Jade Bay.

Jade Bay was discovered by two of our ancestors, whose names are long forgotten, around 9,000 years ago, when my father was just a toddler. The island is about 30 miles across and 50 miles long, and parts of it are completely deserted. Part of that is because some families chose to live in underwater homes, and the other part is because most of the Sirens have abandoned Jade Bay in favor of a life disguised as humans. Even though those families are frowned upon by the rest of the Sirens, and my father, there are no laws against it. No one knows why they leave, but some think it may have something to do with the prophecy and avoiding war.

Now, the royal family.

First, my father. King Marinus, lord of the Sirens. He likes to think that he's got power over other things in the ocean too, but his power, under Poseidon's law, is limited to Jade Bay. But, don't get confused. He is a good person, a good king, and a good father. He is highly respected by his people, and other ocean creatures, too. He, with my mother and I, live on land in the palace. I've lived there all my life, but we often visit the houses and shops underneath the water.

There's my mother, too. Queen Coral, Lady of the Sirens. (I know what you're thinking. These names. The most stereotypical ocean names ever. Not my idea.) As much as my father hates to admit it, she makes most of the kingdom's decisions. Most Sirens refer to her as "Jade Bay's Mother," and she is probably the greatest sea queen there ever was.

Next is my older brother, Prince Dylan. (In case you're wondering, Dylan means "son of the sea.") He's not exactly your... Typical prince. He's more of the, say, indoor type. He spends most of the time in Jade Bay's underwater village in a simple home, with no extravagant features. Dylan and I have never been close, and as soon as he graduated he moved right out of the castle. I would honestly prefer to have a house underwater, but I think another child moving away would break my mother's heart. He stays inside, and occasionally comes to the castle for dinner.

Finally, there's me. Princess Laguna. Since I'm only 200, I won't need to get married anytime soon. I still live in the castle, and I still am in grade 11 in Siren School. I hope maybe one day after I graduate I can finish my training and become a Bay Protector, better known as a Siren. As a Bay Protector, your job is to make sure no human or any other creature gets into Jade Bay. If something does try to get through, Sirens use Siren-Song; songs that Sirens sing that enchant the victim into wanting to drown themselves in the ocean waters to be with the Sirens.

Now, don't get the wrong idea. Sirens aren't bloodthirsty creatures. The only reason they ever will harm a living being is if Jade Bay is in danger. Sure, there have been plenty of times where Sirens had to use Siren-Song to protect the Bay, but never has there been a Siren who abused the power of Siren-Song.

So, in Jade Bay, you're either a Bay Protector, a shopkeeper, or an advisor. Shopkeepers run stores and businesses and advisors work in the government or the royal court. My brother says that eventually he'd like to open a restaurant or food business, but who knows when he'll get around to it.

I'm so proud of my home. I'm proud to call myself a Siren, and I couldn't be happier with my life. If this truly is the book the prophecy speaks of, I desperately hope the saviors, reading this, no matter how far in the future, know how much I admire them. I place my trust in you, keepers of my home, to save my Bay. I hope that I will be alive to someday meet you.
