Moana and Ophelia held on for dear life as their new companion rocketed through the water for what seemed like hours. Aikaterine pressed on and on, skimming the surface of the water, until even she had become worn out. Ophelia said a prayer of thanks when Aikaterine loosened her iron grip on her numb fingers. The sisters both rested for a while, floating on their backs. Aikaterine seemed annoyed.
"This clearly isn't working," she said, swimming in circles.
"We're sorry," Moana said sheepishly. "We're really not used to-"
"No, it's not you," the Siren said, and gave a compassionate look to Moana and Ophelia. "I apologize, we should have been at our destination quite a while ago. I seem..." she sighed, ashamed of herself. "I seem to have become lost."
Moana furrowed her brows in frustration, and Ophelia shot her a dirty look.
"That's alright. You can find the way, I'm sure," Ophelia said kindly. When Aikaterine didn't reply, Ophelia felt a knot form in her already queasy stomach. "R-right?"
"Yes! Yes, I know the way," she said. "It's just going to be... A bit different."
"Alright. We trust you," Ophelia said, but Moana bit her lip. She wasn't so sure about her eager decision to trust Aikaterine earlier. But she started to think about it, and she realized that this was more adventure than she had ever been on before in her life. She wasn't about to bail out based on fear.
Aikaterine smiled at Ophelia. "I appreciate that," she said, and developed a determined look in her eyes. "Now, listen to me. This is going to sound frightening, and a bit, well, mad. But it will work. I am about to use some Siren Magic." As she said this an excited sparkle lit up her gold eyes. "It is safe, I assure you. Now, hold on," she said, and they rejoined hands. Aikaterine took a deep breath. Ophelia didn't realize how much she was shaking.
"Please, girls, don't panic," Aikaterine said, and the girls timidly nodded. Then it began.
Aikaterine started chanting in a language that Ophelia and Moana had never heard before. The water around them started to froth and swirl, and Moana let out a small uncharacteristic whimper. Ophelia, however, had shut her eyes and was gripping Aikaterine's hand so tightly that she was sure that the siren would notice. However, Aikaterine seemed unfazed. Her chanting got louder, and the water around them turned into a sort of whirlpool, and all three started to descend, rather gently, into the waves.
They stayed in this spiraling funnel for a few seconds. Ophelia didn't know where it was they were traveling to, but she knew one thing for sure, it was underwater. Then, as quickly as the madness had started, it stopped. They were standing on the sandy ocean floor.
When the first water funnel had ended, another began. Well, to be exact, two more began, but, they were tightly wrapped around the girls' bodies. It was like when Ariel from The Little Mermaid got her legs from the evil sea witch. And without knowing it, the reverse was happening to the twins. Their legs joined together to form a tail, and Moana's skin turned blue, and Ophelia's was a pale pink. When the funnels were gone, the previously human sisters were now full-blown Sirens. Ophelia gasped when she saw her body, and Moana smiled and giggled with excitement.
"Ophelia," Moana said, and then was surprised that her voice was completely clear underwater. "We're Sirens!"
