Letting out a sigh, Beomgyu fixes his hair for one last time before heading out on his own. Jaejoon; the young resident doctor has told him that he can move a bit by himself but he has to take things slow because, if he tries to rush things, he'll physically exhaust himself, resulting in the symptoms reappearing.
Walking along the hospital hallways, he finds himself bowing to people almost every other second. He knew very well that none of the staff or doctors couldn't care less about him bowing to them but he couldn't walk past people who looked visibly older without bowing as he had been taught to always bow to those who are senior to him. So, he ended up bowing to almost all souls he crossed. The morning shift had just seemed to begin. There were a lot of people just trying to get things done in time. Finally, after bowing to almost a hundred people or so it felt, Beomgyu finds himself in front of the conference room. He grabs the doorknob and tries to bring himself to twist it. The discussion that took place here yesterday, made him feel like he was lost. It made him feel like his life was over. What was he going to hear today? Will things get worse or will they get better? He can't even guess! Life has been too unpredictable for the last two days for him to guess anything anymore. Taking a deep breath, he prepares to twist the doorknob, only to stop after hearing the discussion going on inside."Ugh! This is so boring! Where are our professors?"
A masculine voice slightly whines. The high schooler quickly recognizes the voice It belonged to Jaejoon. A female giggles before dropping a question.
"Hey, Joon, do you think Dr. Kang will tell that boy about his heart failure and his needing a transplant to live?
"Are you talking about Beomgyu? Well, all the reports are yet to arrive so it's not yet the case of heart failure but then again, It's inevitable... Haewon, I don't think he's getting to know so soon, though. Dr. Kang and his team have decided to take things slow. So, yeah, he'll probably get to know a lot later.
"Am... am I going to... die?"
A trembling voice sounding pretty young is suddenly heard, asking the question in a low tone. Both of the young physicians flinch, startled by the sudden question since there were only the two of them in the room, waiting for the senior doctors d to arrive.
"No, Beomgyu! It's uh... We.. umm..."
Haewon; the female physician desperately tries to answer him but at this very moment, for some unknown reason, she finds herself unable to come up with a single believable lie.
"Why? Why did you get my hopes up? Why did you lie to me?"
Beomgyu questions; his tone sounding similar to the one of a person who has been defeated in the battle of life.
"WHY?!?!?"
He growls, tears beginning to stream down his face which had turned red due to his loud screaming. Pain, sorrow, grief, and hopelessness; all present in his tone at the same time. The two doctors stare at him with eyes full of shock. Is this how that girl under the treatment of the neurology department react after hearing the news? Jaejoon removes his gaze, unable to keep maintaining eye contact with him. Beomgyu sprints out of the conference room; just wanting to run to his cabin and lock the doors so that he can bury his face in his pillow and cry his heart out.
"Beomgyu!!!"
Haewon tries to run after him only for Jaejoon to block her way, putting his hand in front of her.
"Let him be, Haewon. We've done enough already. We need not do anymore. Let him grieve in peace for some time. We'll settle this down once our professors and the other senior doctors arrive."
He replies, his tone sounding exhausted for some reason. Haewon just sighs but doesn't question his acts, knowing that they must have a cause behind them. She just plops on a chair, her mind beginning to spin as she tries to think of how they should tell the seniors about this.
