Summary: Y/N disappeared and hasn't been seen by anyone for nearly a year. The police declared her dead but her friends never forget her or believed that until they saw her while on a dog walk.
"Is this Y/N?" Steve asked, picking up a picture of me and Nancy off the dashboard of the car.
"Who's Y/N?" Lucas asked as he craned his neck to get a look at the photo.
"She was my sister." Nancy cleared her throat from the shakiness as tears welled in her eyes.
"Did she run away?" The boy asked.
"We don't know." Dustin replied solemnly.
"She just vanished." Max mumbled as she comforted El who had silent tears running down her cheeks.
A tear dropped down my cheeks as I watched the consequences of my actions unfold before me: my friends crying and my sister close to breaking down. I settled amongst the dirt, staying hidden by the leaves of the bushes of the woods.
"How long ago?" Lucas asked as the other began to clamber out of the car.
"Just over a year ago." Nancy avoided everyone's eyes as she spoke, grabbing her things. She grabbed Alfie's lead and the dog jumped out.
I grinned as I saw his shaggy, fluffy fur and heard his gruff bark.
"Hey Alfie!" Nancy said confused as he dog kept tugging on his lead, straining to get to me.
Alfie tugged once more, causing Nancy to fall into stumble into Steve as the dog barrelled towards me.
Steve helped Nancy to her feet as everyone chased after the dog who was on top of me, licking my face and wagging his tail excitedly.
"Y/N?" El called and I stiffened as I shifted Alfie off me.
"El, what are you..." Steve questioned as they approached the dog.
"That's how Alfie used to greet Y/N and only Y/N. She's here." El explained as she wiped her eyes.
I did the only thing I knew how to do.
I grabbed my bag and ran as fast as I could, disappearing out of sight, darting around the trees and branches, jumping over the rabbit holes as I ran. My legs burning and my chest heaving as tears streaked down my face.
I heard their voices and hurried footsteps as they chased after me with Alfie barking as he enjoyed this new game.
I swivelled my head and was confused as to why Steve was not there.
Suddenly, I heard thundering footsteps coming to the right of me.
I felt the rough grab of hands and someone's weight on my torso, pinning me down.It was Steve.
He got to his feet and helped me up as I rubbed the dirt off of me as I frantically fought for something to say.
I mean, what do you say to your closest friends and family after you disappear for nearly two years?
The others caught up after about a minute and Nancy walked up to my with watery eyes.
"I'm..." I began to say before I was interrupted.
Her long slender arms pulled me into her torso. She soothed me and ran her fingers through my hair which she knew helped calm me. Her warm hands graced up and down my back as I sobbed. She gently pulled me away and cupped my cheeks as I kept a firm hold of her clothes, never wanting to let go; neglected of comfort and warmth after all this time.
"I'm so sorry Nance!" I sobbed as she looked into my eyes.
"So am I. I should have helped you. I'm so sorry." Nancy whimpered and we collapsed against each other.
We fell to the floor and Nancy pulled me into her lap as I hid my face in her chest, listening to her slowing heart rate relaxing me as I sobbed.
Slowly, everyone joined the hug.
I felt El's tears drip onto my shirt and I grabbed her hand, squeezing it softly to remind her I was here. Steve's rough hands ruffled my hair making me smile as Dustin, Lucas and Max wrapped their arms around me tightly as they cried quietly.
Eventually, we walked back to the car and I sighed as the warmth of the car wrapped around me.
"How did you even live in the woods for over a year?" Lucas asked curiously.
"Yeah how did ya?" Dustin added.
"I had my methods." I yawned as I laid my head against El's lap.
"Were you eating enough Y/N?" Dustin chuckled making me giggle.
"Nope. The hardest part wasn't the hunger though. It was the weather. Trying to find shelter in the rain and storms and trying to stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It really kicked my ass." I chuckled as my eyes flickered close. "And the lack of sleep isn't ideal. I would go three days with no sleep or food."
"Get some sleep Y/N. It's a long drive back home." Nancy turned to look at me.
"Home?" I pondered sleepily.
"Yeah, home. You're going home." Nancy grinned happily as she began to drive.
"I'm going home." I whispered happily with sleep staining my voice as I slipped into the world of dreams.
