When You Meet

You sat up, mind blank as a pounding headache hit you like a truck.

'The train crashed.' You noted mentally, getting up and crawling out of the debris.

With a crack of your shoulder, you picked up your sword and looked around for Rengoku.

You spotted him, his chest heaving and sword readied as he faced a demon. You stumbled a couple of steps forward, trying to see what rank.

Your eyes widened when you realized.

'Uppermoon three..' You thought, forcing yourself to lurch forward as he attacked. You figured it'd be the finishing blow. You always had great reflexes.

'Breath of the Dragon, First Scale: Warning Rumble!'

Your blade cut clean through his arm before it made contact. You slid to a stop a couple feet away and span around to check on your fellow hashira.

"Thanks." Rengoku said, his usual smile wiped away.

"Your eye..." you muttered, forgetting the demon and turning. "Does it hurt?"

You wiped the blood away with your hand, reaching into your pocket for a cloth to do a better job.

"Haha! I'm fine!" He couldn't help but smile at your worry. "But we shouldn't worry about me now, focus on the demon!"

"Oh..." you muttered, remembering the demon. You turned around, raising your sword.

The demon looked to be in thought, taking slow steps forward. Then, within a second, he shot forward, arms outstretched.

You swung your sword instinctively, eyes glaring with annoyance.

'Breath of the Dragon, Sixth-' before you could finish your form, he wrapped you in an unexpected hug.

You blinked. It wasn't meant to hurt, it was a gentle hug. It made you feel like you'd known him for a long time, but truthfully, you'd never met this man a day in your life.

That being said, and the fact he was a demon, you squirmed.

The position you were in restricted you from swinging your sword, as you attempted to push him away and even kick him.

This was all to no avail, until Rengoku finally left his dumbfounded daze.

He raised his sword, ready to do anything to help.
