After a morning of painfully pretending to be into William, so that you could get the job, he told you he'd get you hired by the next day. You left as soon as it was polite to and felt the impulse to run all the way to the Stark Tower, where you hoped you'd find at least a few of the Avengers. You could feel a terrible sensation rising in your chest, provoked by everything that has happened these past few days.

You went straight to Nat's room, and she was at the desk, doing something on her laptop. You collapsed on her bed and started sobbing intensely, so Nat quickly turned to you and came to hold you in her arms.

"Hey... What's the matter?" she softly whispered and started stroking your back.

You slowly told her everything that happened in the past few hours, often interrupted by your own sobs, and she listened patiently to the full story.

More than anything, you were worried for Maria, who was still stuck in the enemy's base, possibly being tortured while you cried in Natasha's arms. You felt so bad that you weren't helping Maria that very moment, but you couldn't keep yourself from crying because of all the things you went through.

"You're helping her a lot by taking a moment to rest and recuperate. Even though it seems like this is wasted time, it's actually really valuable and it's contributing a lot to making you able to keep going and help Maria with your brain refreshed," she explained in a calming voice, and you hugged her tightly as a 'thank you', finally feeling relaxed.

The rest of the day you spent planning Maria's rescue with Fury and the rest of the Avengers. You were about to go in as a double agent, and you needed to be ready for such a difficult task. Your main objective was to get the team inside so that they could rescue Maria while you pretended to work there, but you couldn't help but feel a hint of selfishness making you want to see Maria and maybe save her yourself. You quickly pushed that thought aside and got ready for sleep, which you didn't expect to get a lot of considering your racing mind. Memories of your first day at S.H.I.E.L.D. flashed into your mind, events that you held close to your heart because of how they shaped your life. That was the day you met Maria, the woman that has since then infected your brain every second of your life.
