Love takes out a syringe and stabs Joss's neck quickly. She injects the substance inside, but my heart feels so cold, thinking it may be too late. Just as she does that, my hands get pulled back, and a soldier cuffs me. I turn to him in confusion.

"What are you doing??" I ask.

"It's for the safety of others." the tall guy says before turning to the rest of the soldiers. "Cuff them and check their bodies. Take the infected man into a separate lab."

"Wait!" I exclaim. "Can I meet your captain? His name is Luke Plowden. One of my friends. And stop handcuffing us! We are not infected!"

"Right." the rude man says before looking at Joss, who looks sane but in a trance. And the rude man's attention goes to Bright, who has his arm bandaged. "Show us your arms."

I become impatient. This guy is just too much!

A soldier walks to Bright and removes the bandages forcefully, then reveals his fresh marks on the arms.

"Were you planning to sneak in with those marks?" the rude soldier asks me with a glint of anger in his eyes.

"Let me explain what it is-"

"No need. Lock them up," he says.

"I said let me explain! Or at least meet your captain!" I walk over to the soldier and knee his gut. He flinches only but stays composed. The next thing I know, he grabs my collar.

"Behave if you don't want to get killed." he threatens.

"Says the sloths who didn't open the gate for us." I snap. "You must have an ego, being a soldier. But you are just a toddler who doesn't know anything. Step back and let the higher-ups do their thing!!"

I feel a tap on my shoulder, and it's Bright.

"Let it go," he says to me.

I move back from the rude soldier and watch as all of us get cuffed and led toward a truck. Joss gets tied with a thick rope as his pupils reduce and enlarge each second. The soldiers stuff a piece of cloth in his mouth and tie it with another cloth. He shakes his head and twists his neck, and it seems as if his whole body and conscience are fighting between infection and elimination.

"What's going on?" I hear a familiar voice. When I turn to the person, I see Luke standing there with a confused look on his face.

"The rescue volunteers are back." the rude man says to Luke after saluting.

"You." Luke walks up to me. "I heard you went back after everything happened. I am glad to see you safe and sound," he says with a pat on my shoulder.

Luke trained with me to join the special forces, and he was my bunkmate. We became friends right after, and he was also there when I got rejected from the final physical test.
