The only thing that will make you happy is being happy with who you are and not who people think you are
-Goldie Hawn
I freeze when Luke reveals that the damned virus is back. What he means by his words, I don't know. But the first thing I remember is my future with Bright. The first person I remember is Bright, to whom I promised that there wouldn't be any change in his life again.
"What do you mean?" I quickly catch up with Luke.
He walks through the corridor and takes me into a restricted area. I show my ID to the soldiers and gain access to that corridor that has stains on the walls, and by the stench, I realise that it is blood.
I hear screams of horror as we stop in front of a room. Luke grabs a gas mask from the table next to the door and gives it to me. I take it and put it on my head, tightening the straps as he puts one on himself.
Then we enter the room. It is foggy, and I almost get lost, but things become clear after a while. I see around six soldiers tied to poles, and another soldier is spraying carbon dioxide on their faces.
I look at Luke in confusion, "What is this?"
"An inside joke. Literally," he says with clenched fists. He picks up a metal pole from the ground and slams it against one of the tied-up soldier's heads. I gasp in surprise as I stumble back. Blood oozes out of the soldier's head, and his head hangs lifelessly. His hit has killed that soldier.
I quickly recover from the horror and pull Luke away.
"Why did you do that??" I exclaim.
"Can't you see? They are zombies," he says through wide eyes, looking so angered and enraged.
I grab the metal pole from Luke's hands and put it aside. Then I walk close to one of the tied-up soldiers to see all the zombie symptoms on him. Exactly like the ones in Cargo used to look. His pupils are so small, and he has visible veins in his face. He grits his teeth as I am in front of him, but he looks really weak.
"What's with the carbon dioxide?" I ask the man who's spraying it at their faces.
"It weakens them, sir. They have incredible power right now," he replies.
Luke steps next to me and slaps the tied-up soldier on the face, but the soldier doesn't even move, "They are stronger than the ones we found in Cargo."
"Luke. I don't understand. What is this, and how come there are still zombies? I thought after the vaccination, the virus was completely destroyed, and you even said you killed every single person except Joss, who's still... still on home rest." I say.
He stumbles back and keeps his hand against the wall for support, "That's what I thought too."
" "
