Note: I giggled writing this
At her words a gentle smile slowly tugged at the edges of your mouth, stretching out in a unsure squiggle until it worked itself out, adjusting to the sudden feeling. The sight made Sally's own smile grow wider, a sort of giggle erupting from it as she pulled you up and in a hug tightly against her.
"Cheer up, buttercup!" She exclaimed, her eyes softly tracing the outline of your present features, giving her reason to pat down your stray hairs and puffed out clothing a little smoother.
She nods her head to the curtains, looking back to you.
"Is it showtime?" she asks you
"I'm scared" you answer hesitantly, taking a few breaths. Grabbing your hands into hers with a firm grip she repeats it back to you
"I'm scared!" she yips, and the booming echo of it on the stage made you worried your guests would hear. Thankfully, her ever cheerful tone could have reassured anyone
"I'm scared?!" you repeat, playing into her questionably playful game.
As you two mirrored the phrase off each other you failed to notice her bouncing footsteps pulling you onto the stage. Spinning you around in front of her to face the still covering velvety curtains she gave a peppy whisper to your ear
"Ready, star?"
Hesitantly nodding out a response she spun you out of the pose she'd put you into against her, "Then it's showtime!" she announced, walking with you following to the backstage scene.
Pulling some rope and pressing some buttons the beat of Jersey Boy's rendition of Can't Take My Eyes Off of You began, the curtains pulling back in time. Passing you a wide smile she couldn't keep back she waited some counts before pulling you onto stage alongside her, making you startled by the happy laughter and cheers from the audience who clapped along to the beat. Just as quickly as your eyes darted in front of you Sally pulled that attention back to you as she slowly moved alongside you to the beat of the song, beginning her part
"Pardon the way that I stand, there's nothing else to compare. The sight of you leaves me weak, there are no words left to speak," She sung, smoothly dancing around you, yours hands keeping you both together before it was your turn to dance with her while you began to sing
"If you feel like I feel, let me know that it's real"
before the two of you spun around in a sort of swing dance before the song began again. By now Sally carried all your attention, your brain too wrapped around looking at her to remembering your own steps and lyrics as to not mess this up for her.
By the next song, one just as energetic yet filled with a few silent pauses your eyes and mind finally began drifting to the audience's eyes, however, Sally's attention followed and in response she made sure to tap your side or give you a little bump, her eyes encouraging you to focus on her.
By the end of the third song you lacked care for the audience at all, even admiring the sight from the stage, the sight brightened by the moon's glow brimming the outlines of all your friends and neighbors. You smiled, admiring it all and soaking in the essence of the moment as it all came to a end.
Letting out a sigh you expected the soundtrack in the back to stop, Sally to announce the end of the show and the crowd to applaud in response.
It didn't.
Turning your back in a panic to Sally she responded with a almost somber smile, one flooding with nervousness. It terrified you, had you done something wrong? Sally had never worn such a face, a frown almost!
As a acoustic guitar sounded from the speakers Sally began
"There's nothing like your smile, sorta subtle and perfect and real"
Oh, oh... OH
"She said, you never knew how wonderful that smile could make someone feel..."
Pulling you into a unsure and awkward hug, giving you enough space to pull away she continued, her breath hitching and causing her to miss a note as you hugged her a little closer.
"But I've kept it all inside my head, what I saw I left unsaid. I couldn't find a way, and I have always said... if I could tell you, how you're everything to me."
Shyly you began to sing alongside her, as the original song grew into a duet about now. Sally had tweaked it a bit, clearly to personalize the song and moment. It made you fear you'd make a mistake joining her, however as she hugged you a little tighter before pulling away to give you the brightest smile you'd ever seen her wear your confidence grew. She sang,
"If I could tell you, but what do I do when there's this great divide"
"You've just seemed so far away,"
"And what do you do, if the distance is too wide? How do you say, I love you? I love you,"
She looked at you unsure, almost stumbling over her steps she made toward you before you responded, reciprocating. It made her eyes close as she put everything to giving you her brightest smile, her forehead leaning in to rest against yours.
"I don't even know how I would even start"
She sang, pressing a kiss to your lips.
