Phoenix's POV
"Stupid fucking hotel room." I mumble as I lean against the wall as Abby Steiner finishes tying the laces of my pink track spikes. "Thanks Abby."
"Anytime." Abby Steiner says.
"Are you sure you wanna race today?" Athing Mu asks.
"Yes." I say then I hear footsteps approach.
"Phoenix it's Isobel." My friend Tara says then she hands me her phone.
"Izzy." I mumble
"What's wrong Bubba?" Isobel says.
"I need fluids after this." I mumble.
My fucking a/c in my hotel room last night broke so I had to sleep in an ungodly heat which caused me to sweat and now I'm dehydrated, but we have one more race and I'm not fucking missing it.
There is only one thing in the world that could keep me from missing this race, but Sarah's safe and sound so I'm not missing this race.
Tonight's the 4x400 Meter relay final.
"And I need you to say the thing when it's my turn to join the track."
"Got it." Isobel says then she hangs up so I hand the phone back to Tara.
"RUNNERS TO THE STAGING AREA." Someone shouts.
"Let's go." I mumble then I stand up straight, follow my teammates to the staging area, and wait to be called out.
As we're waiting, I look at the two papers on the wall that concern our team.
When our relay team is introduced the four of us head out onto the track, pose for the cameras then we head to our lane.
Once at our lane, we have a little huddle then Athing Mu, Abby, and I head to the infield and get in our respective Leg lines while Sydney preps for the .
When I get to the fourth Leg line I stand in-between Kiyana and Yasmijn, but the three of us stay silent which is normal for us before we race.
A minute later I hear the starting gun go off so I shut my eyes and try to relax and not think about the fact I'm gonna be feel like death after this.
