July 28th
It's been a couple of weeks since Nancy started the job, and I've never been so relieved in my life. She surprises me almost every day with something new.
The other day, she randomly asked me if she could help me with cooking. Last week, she joined me for Jack's bath time and played with him for a long thirty minutes before he passed out and fell asleep.
Where was she my entire life? I think to myself, enjoying a nice cup of tea with a new book.
Just then, my husband's brother Kevin pops in with his new dog, Bruno. He's a German Shepard. Carl is obsessed with dogs and has always planned to get one. We were just waiting for Jack to be a little older to get a dog of our own.
"Hey Jen! How's it going?" He asks, patting Bruno softly.
"Never been better, Kevin! How's Paula's morning sickness?" Paula and
Kevin are high school sweethearts, and they tied the knot last spring. Paula is currently 12 weeks pregnant.
"Oh, she's seen better days. But everything's been good so far. We are so excited," he says joyously.
"So, when is your big meeting with your top client? Carl hasn't stopped talking about it since forever." I asked Kevin.
"Hahaha!! Yes, we are super looking forward to it. This deal might change the course of our business drastically. It could be next month." He exhales.
After chatting for a bit, Kevin kisses Jack goodbye and leaves with Bruno.
Two minutes later, Nancy comes up to me with a worried look on her face and says, "Hi Jenny! Could I have a moment of your time?"
"Of course! What is it, Nancy? Why do you look so dull?" I enquire.
"I don't know how to say this," she mumbles. "I've been having some trouble at home with my husband and his drinking. Last night, it got really heated. If you don't mind, can I stay the night here? I'll not get in your way. I can stay in the outhouse." She sobs.
My heart sinks when I hear this. I can't believe she has a tough life outside of this house. I get back to her immediately, saying, "You don't have to worry about anything, Nancy. You can stay as long as you want. If you need any help regarding things at home, please don't hesitate to ask me or Carl." I assure her.
