It's been a couple days since you and Steven got kicked from Homeworld, but it hasn't been bad lately. You met Peridot and Lapis, but only at the beach house. Apparently there's something called a "Little Homeworld" for abandoned gems and the sort and you were excited to see it. But they're still working on it so it had to wait, even Steven was helping them. It was so wonderful seeing him like this, he hadn't had an episode in a while!
You were in bed, lounging, well, more like lazing around. Steven's small TV is broken and you didn't feel like getting up. Until Steven and the group came in, yelling out your name.
"Y/n! Come downstairs!" Steven shouted out and you all but jumped up and jogged down.
"Yeah, hi, what's up?" You asked. He grinned and gave you a hug. You returned it easily and he gripped your shoulders, he looked like he was about to explode!
"Let's go into town! You can meet the residents and finally eat some real human food, it'll be fun!!" Steven exclaimed and you returned the grin twice as big.
You quickly got ready and stumbled out of the house putting your shoes on, the group of gems were waiting outside and chatting idly until you arrived.
"Hello, Y/n," The tallest gem greeted you calmly and the others stayed silent, except for Amethyst, of course.
"You ready for some good fuckin' food!" She asked you, and, speak of the devil, your stomach growled.
"My stomach can speak for itself!" You laughed and she laughed with you.
The pearl only looked at you quietly, you began to get nervous, why is she staring at me? You shook it off, like cobwebs in your mind because this pearl wasn't going to get her mood ruined by someone just staring at her! So along the way to the pizzeria which, quoted by Amethyst, "its the best pizza in town!" ("It's the only pizza in town," Steven interjected) You only giggled, Steven had grabbed your hand and with butterflies heavy in your stomach, you held hands.
The tall gem, who you know as Garnet asked you questions as well. She knew not to ask about why you and Steven got kicked but other things, like how you ended up on Homeworld.
"I was part of the Human Zoo but they noticed I was particularly quiet and listened to all instructions so they offered me the position of Pearl and I accepted because I hated the zoo. Remember Purple Diamond? I was her Pearl for millennia." I gazed away into the water, somberly.
"I'm sorry, Y/n." Garnet spoke quietly.
"No, it's fine, she was like an older sister to me and after Yellow Diamond shattered her, I was alone. But then, I met Steven and everything is alright now." You quickly changed the topic, teasing Steven about his constant tantrums.
You arrived at the pizzaria and found a table, a teenager walked up to the table with a uniform on. She popped her bubblegum and clicked the pen.
"Welcome to Fish Stew Pizza, how may I help you?"
Everyone agreed on a large pizza, except for Amethyst who ordered one for herself. The waitress nodded and walked off with the order.
Small talk ensued. It was horrible but then the other gems realized how quiet Pearl has been since the human arrived. Garnet nudged her and asked quietly, "Pearl, you must speak if you want to be known."
Pearl shook her head, looking down at her tightly folded hands, shaking. She looked at Garnet with teary eyes, "How come... How come, she didn't end up like me? How come.. Steven actually loves her?" She quietly sobbed out, and that's when everyone looked at her, then you, and then at her, then you because it was confusing. Perplexing to Pearl that you had a happy ending, somewhat, that you weren't blindly obeying Steven with hopes he'll love you anymore then he already did. How did you get him to love you back? To love you entirely?
Pearl was shocked when she first saw you, bruised and bloodied. But, she didn't even need to step in, because Steven was there for you. He was there whether you were obedient or not, he was there even if you weren't in the mood to be silly, and you didn't give your life for him, you didn't give away the meaning of your life to only him. It made her think, about the what ifs, even though Pearl knew, in her heart that it wouldn't have changed anything. Now she had to let it go, but it was awful. To let go of things, people you loved. Pearl had forgotten about the whole Rose Quartz into Steven situation and now it was back to haunt her. What will his own father think? She's scared of you. The power you hold about yourself. And now she's crying in a pizzaria, everyone silently trying to console her. Pearl got up and ran, Garnet going after her.
You, Amethyst and Steven stayed behind, not knowing what was happening nor what to do about it.
"What the hell is wrong with her?" Amethyst asked after a good minute silence.
"I have no clue..." You answered, the pizzas came and with no words, you all started to eat. Amethyst seemed to know the others would come back. If not today, later. And you trusted her, because Steven did and she reminds you so much if Carmen. So you waited, and waited even after you went home, pizza box in hand. Amethyst told you, it's not rare for Pearl to have a sort of meltdown and leave, so it'll be ok. She reassured you with a pat on the shoulder and went to bed. You lied down with Steven and sighed. He knew you were worried so, quietly, he embraced you and smoothed your hair while you drifted off.
