CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Our March exams were now over and our school holidays had begun. I was confident that I did well in my exams and now, I just couldn't wait to enjoy my holidays, although I had no plans.

In the past month or so, my stalker had been quiet, like he was planning something big. I was frightened, but I didn't say anything to anyone; at least not directly. I once asked my dad what he would think if I had a stalker that looked like a dead man and he responded by laughing. I laughed with him so that he wouldn't think I was serious, but that day I saw that my story would sound absolutely ridiculous.

My friends were doing great as well. Thabo proposed marriage to Tyler on our last exam day. We were all out together after we had written to celebrate our survival through the exams. We went to the bowling alley. A while into our game, we heard an announcement over the intercom, saying we should all look at the big LCD screen.

Pictures of Tyler and Thabo were played in a slideshow and then, his voice came through the speakers in the room. I remember the words he said like it was yesterday. Wait a minute; it was yesterday. Ha-ha.

"When I was a little boy, my mom told me that one day I would meet a girl that would take my breath away with her smile. She said, she'd be so pretty that every other girl would pale in comparison to her. She also said that, I would have the urge to love, protect and care for her. From the moment I met you in our first pre-school class, you smiled at me and I was convinced you were the girl my mom told me about. She said, when you meet her, marry her".

He appeared from behind her and took her hand. He gave some guy the microphone and that guy held it at Thabo's mouth. Thabo took out a small, purple velvet box, opened it to reveal a beautiful silver ring with a heart-shaped emerald in the middle. It also had two diamonds on either side of the emerald. It was gorgeous. He continued his proposal with so much emotion and love that I knew he was really taken.

"I love you, Tyler Evans. I may not be perfect, but I can and will love you perfectly for the rest of both of our lives, if you allow me to. Please make me the most fortunate man alive and marry me".

A tear escaped his eye as he said this and he removed the ring from the box. Tyler was so stunned and she stood there, frozen. We all laughed when Thabo prompted her by clearing his throat. Of course, at the end, Tyler said yes. It was a beautiful celebration after that. I was so happy for them.

On the other hand, I was trying to figure out how I would get Ashley a guy. I didn't like the longing look she had every time a couple was around her. It worried me. She never spoke of a guy. But then again, she was one of those content-with-myself kind of girls, like I was.

As I was sitting thinking about Ashley, my phone rang. Bradley was calling and I frowned. It was too early for him to be calling, but I answered anyway.

"Hi baby", I said.

"Hi babe", he replied quietly, like he was sad about something.

"Are you okay?" I asked worriedly. He sighed.

"No. My family wants to go to Gauteng for the holidays", he said.

"And what's the problem?" I asked.

"Well, you won't be there", he said. I burst out laughing thinking he was kidding. When I realized I was the only one laughing, I cut my laughter down and apologised.

"I'm sorry. I thought you were joking. Why can't you just go with your family? You'll see me when you come back", I said like it didn't hurt to say it. Honestly, I didn't want him to go.
