EPILOGUE
SIX YEARS LATER
It had been five years since I married my beautiful husband, Bradley Robinson, and I couldn't have been more happier. Being that I was still a lover of McDonalds, I bought a franchise of it. I was soon to start a business in retail as well. But to top it all off, my husband and I had gotten a recording deal. Yes, we were professional singers now. I had a lot to juggle as a businesswoman, a wife and a singer.
My family was doing well. My parents were as healthy as ever. Natasha was now also married to Justin MacDonald, whom she met at work. Vanessa had already completed her degree and started her own private practice as a paediatrician. She was engaged to a Sotho man, Thuso Maake. I wasn't surprized though when she brought him home. I had always seen that she had no interest in white men. Lindsay on the other hand, had twin girls and was currently pregnant again. I was happy for all of them.
The Robinsons were also doing well. Ashley had entered South African Idols two years after she started varsity and she won. That was something we were all proud of, especially her fiancé, John. John was going to open an art
gallery for his art pieces. Daniel, the youngest in the family was growing well. He was going to be a wonderful boy like his brother was. Peter's ministry grew some more and he was always great, so was Rebecca. I was glad to be part of their family.
Cathy and Seth relocated to Bloemfontein after they were done with their degrees. They had fallen in love with the place and couldn't see themselves living anywhere else. As for Tyler and Thabo, well those two came to live in Johannesburg after they had a son, so that they would be close to Bradley and I.
I was currently sitting on Bradley's lap, and I was heavily pregnant due in a day or two. I was excited to see whether I would give birth to a mini me or a mini Bradley. He was convinced that I was going to give birth to a beautiful baby girl that would "look like me", his words not mine. I wanted a boy though.
"Babe, did you just pee on me?" he asked. I frowned. I had porridge brain, so I didn't understand what he was talking about. Instead, he helped me up and that's when I realized my water broke.
"Oh... my..." I said.
"No time to freak out; let's go", Bradley said. He ran to the room to retrieve my bags and I called Tyler. She said she and Thabo were going to meet us at the hospital. Bradley came running back into the lounge and helped me to the car.
"Baby, you need to relax", I said. "We want to arrive safely, not die on the way". He was driving like a mad man. I understood though because this was his first child. He looked tense and that only got worse when I had a contraction. I screamed in pain.
"Oh no! Oh no! Oh no! Breath baby, breath", he said in a panicked voice. This carried on until we arrived at the hospital. He was holding onto my hand the whole time... or rather, I was squeezing the life out of him.
"This is all your fault, Robinson", I screamed, sweating profusely. He winced and looked at the doctor, who by the way, laughed at what I said.
"Your wife is hilarious", he said to Bradley. He chuckled humourlessly.
"Is there anything you can do to make her stop looking at me like that?" he asked and the doctor laughed some more.
"Just a few seconds", he said, and that's when I heard my baby's first cry. "Congratulations, it's a boy", he continued. I exhaled, feeling exhausted and let go of Bradley's hand. The nurse covered the baby and gave him to Bradley. I could see immediately that he had fallen in love with our son. He looked at me with a huge smile on his face and walked over to me. He gave me the baby and as I looked at our son, I thought I had died and gone to heaven.
"Oh... my... word..." I said. "He's beautiful just like his father", I said the last part looking at Bradley. He smiled at me and kissed me on the forehead.
"I love you, Angelique Latoya Rivers", he whispered.
"I love you, baby", I replied. "So, what do we name him?"
"Mason", we both said at the same time. We looked at each other and smiled.
"We're in sync..." I said. "Like our matching heartbeats".
"You finally got it", he said. I rolled my eyes.
"I got it six years ago, Robinson", I corrected.
"I love you, Angelique..." he said "... always". I smiled.
"I love you, Bradley", I replied. I then scooted over on the bed making space for him to sit. He sat down and took baby Mason into his hands. He spoke to him and as I watched him and Mason, I fell deeper in love. After all the heart ache I went through, God had brought me a wonderful man, who was God's splendour made human. This man, Bradley Robinson was my hero. He saved me.
