CHAPTER TWENTY SIX

ANGELIQUE'S POINT OF VIEW

I woke up to an annoying beeping sound and the sterile stench of a hospital ward, and I knew that I was in hospital, again. I moved my hand, and felt a stronger hand in mine. I looked at my hand and saw a familiar hand; my boyfriend's... no. My fiancé's hand.

I followed the trail of his thick arm that had pulsating veins and, his big bicep that was covered with a rumpled t-shirt. I looked at his peaceful face as he snored lightly in his sleep. As he exhaled, his bangs flapped up and I had the urge to brush his hair out of his face.

"Dimples", I whispered. He stirred in his sleep and I gently tugged on his hand. "Dimples, baby", I said a bit louder. He sat up quickly and shook his head. He looked at me with a confused look, like he couldn't believe what he was seeing.

"Angel?" he said and I nodded. He stood up and hugged me, kissing my face and neck. "Oh. Thank you, Lord. Thank you, Lord", he chanted as he continued showering me with kisses and I giggled.

"Maybe I should get shot more often", I said jokingly. He didn't take it as a joke though because, he frowned at me.

"No..." he drawled out, shaking his head disapprovingly. I laughed.

"Ugh. Live a little, Grumpy", I said. "I love you".

"That was out of the blue, but I love you more", he said. I wasn't in the mood of arguing, so I let that go. "Maybe I should call the nurse", he said.

"Maybe you should", I said, as I pressed the nurse button. Bradley held my hand and kissed it.

"I missed you so much, Angel", he said. I smiled and the nurse walked in. She did some check up on me and then called the doctor. Dr Smit walked in and smiled brightly when she saw me. Bradley helped me sit up and Dr Smit came closer.

"My most regular patient, Angelique, how are you feeling?" she said jokingly. I smiled and nodded.

"I'm a little sore, but I'm grateful to be alive", I said truthfully. She nodded then started asking me questions as part of her check-up. Apparently, the bullet that hit me didn't do any damage, but after losing blood from my head wounds then the bullet wound, I got light-headed and fainted. Bradley said he felt stupid for thinking I was dead. I hadn't sustained too much physical injuries. Apparently what Tyler did to my head wound helped me a lot.

My parents and friends came to visit me, and my mom said that I was banned from hospitals. When she said that, I almost died of laughter. Tyler came to visit me as well, but she was in the ward next to mine. Apparently, Bradley hadn't gone home ever since I was admitted into hospital, which, by the way, was four days ago. My mom did however convince him to go home after I was examined. He said he'd be back in an hour and he was true to his word. I loved that green-eyed pretty boy.

Everyone had avoided telling me what happened at Adam's house four days ago, so I decided I was going to prod it out of Bradley when he came back. When he came back, he looked fresh, wearing a white tight-fitting V-neck t-shirt and blue denims. He brought me flowers, which had dandelions. Once he was settled, I asked him.

"Hey, baby", I started.

"Yes, babe", he replied.

"What happened at Adam's house?" I asked. He frowned.

"Well, I knew you'd ask eventually, so I might as well tell you", he said as he inhaled a deep breath. He took my hand, and exhaled slowly. Was it that bad? "Well, the cops who were heading the investigation were Detective Gert van Tonder and Detective Peter Magagula. They sent a squad of police to Adam's house after you called. We came with, Tyler's dad, Thabo and I. When we arrived, Lillian and her goons had guarded the place. I called the police station and asked for more cops to come", he said. I nodded.
