CHAPTER NINETEEN

Today, I was meeting with the girls to finalize Tyler's wedding plans and later, it was our matric dance. We had the perfect venue, one of the best caterers in town and Tyler's wedding dress and the bridesmaids' dresses were made by Thabo's mom. The wedding dress was the most beautiful wedding dress I had ever seen. It was a work of art.

Thabo's mom was a talented designer, for sure. She owned chain boutiques all over the country and a factory to make clothes. She was a famous designer, who was responsible for many looks that people saw on the celebrities on the red carpets of South Africa. Tyler felt honoured to be wearing a dress specially made for her by her mother in-law. The bridesmaids' dresses were also gorgeous, matching the theme colours, white and purple. Everything was practically done; all that needed to happen was the wedding ceremony and then that would be it.

After the meeting, we went to my house to do our hair, nails and make-up for the matric dance that night. My mom had organized that four nail artists, two hairstylists and two make-up artists to come prepare us for the matric dance at the house after we were dressed. Cathy took a shower and Tyler had a bath in my bathroom, while Ashley and I used the bathroom in the guestroom to bath. Once we felt clean, we put on our dresses.

Cathy had on a baby blue, boob tube tutu dress. The tutu was decorated with diamonds and ended at mid-thigh. Ashley had a maroon, figure-hugging dress that went down to her knees. It had a thick, gold metal belt at mid-waist. Tyler's dress was a turquoise figure-hugging dress that covered her feet. It had a white bow around her waist. My girls' looked gorgeous already; the make-up was just a plus in my eyes.

Once we were dressed, Tyler and Ashley did their hair, while Cathy and I did our make-up. I wanted a natural look. While that was happening, the nail artists got to work on our preferred nail art. I did acrylic nails with green butterflies on both my ring fingernails. Once my make-up was done, I put on my shoes and waited for the hairstylist to get done with either Tyler's or Ashley's hair. One of the stylists came over to me and did what I asked for.

She trimmed my fringe bangs. My natural brunette colour was starting to show, so my hair had beautiful brown hues. My hair had grown from the bob-cut I had, so I could do the pin-up style I wanted. The stylist brushed my hair up and tied it. Then she made a ballerina bun, adorning it with green crystals to match my dress. I loved the way I looked.

I stood up, and went to my body long mirror. I twirled around, looking at myself with veneration. My mom walked towards me, her eyes already watery. I smiled as I shook my head. She put her hands on my shoulders from behind and sniffed.

"You look absolutely gorgeous, baby", she said. I saw the nods of my friends and the stylists in the mirror as they agreed to what my mom had said. I smiled.

"Thank you mom", I said.

"You're definitely going to be named the best dressed", said Cathy. I frowned and turned to look at her.

"No, I'm not", I said defiantly.

"I wouldn't be surprized", said Ashley.

"Me too", agreed Tyler.

"That dress is beautiful, Angie", continued Ashley.

"So are your dresses too. Plus, we haven't even seen what the other girls' dresses are like", I said.

"Well, don't say we didn't tell you", said Cathy. I frowned and turned back towards the mirror. Was my dress really that beautiful, or were these people just messing with me? I'll go with the latter, I thought to myself.
