"We'll start slow."

"That's what she said," I interrupted Gally as we sat on the Watchtower that night, trying to decide the best course of action to deal with Derek.

He cast me a glare before continuing. "Slowly stop arguing. Unfortunately, that'll mean no more pranks on me."

"Ah," I spoke, once again annoying him. "It all makes sense now. The only reason you want to help me is so I'll lay off you."

He smirked. "Might be part of the reason."

"Anyway, after we appear friends, then what?"

"We start spending more time together. Make it clear we get along."

I sighed. "Will this be enough? And you're saying take it gradually? What if Derek does something by then? We don't know how long he'll wait to get back at me."

"You're right."

"Like always."

"Sure." It was clear he didn't mean that. "Okay, we need a better plan. I announce you're under my protection?"

I snorted. "I'd rather deal with Derek in that case, thanks."

His face suddenly paled. It worried me what he had thought of to cause him to go like that so quickly.

"What's wrong?" I questioned, not fully sure if I wanted to know the answer to that or not.

"There is one way..." he replied hesitantly. "But neither of us are gonna like it."

"Oh no. What is it?"

He mumbled something under his breath that I couldn't hear. When I lifted an eyebrow to get him to speak up, what came out of his mouth was horrific. Awful. Disgusting. Suicide worthy. The absolute worst idea ever thought of. Unheard of.

"I'm not pretending to date you!" I exclaimed, the wind knocked out of me purely at the thought of it. Ugh, imagine it. Holding his hand. Kissing him. Hugging him.

I shuddered and tried not to vomit.

"We're sworn enemies!" I argued. "I don't go round dating the people I hate the most." I frowned at him, offended he even suggested it.

"You can continue to hate me to your heart's content and I'll do the exact same thing to you. However, think about. If we're only friends it may not stop him, but if we're together? Nobody would touch you with a ten foot pole."

I groaned. He made sense. Too much sense for my liking.

"Why are you even doing this? What gain do you have?"

"I've said it before and I'll say it again. Whether I like it or not, you're still a Glader. Still part of us. You deserve to feel as safe as you can in a place like this. You don't need extra hassle."

"You're so confusing. You act like moody bitch all the time but then you pull this sort of stunt? I don't get it. What are you getting out of this?"

"Well, for starters, it will piss off Derek. That's reason enough."

"Nah," I said, not accepting his answer. "There's something else. Tell me."

"No. Either accept my help now or figure this out yourself," he snapped. Moody Gally was back. The world had reverted to normal, thank god.

"Fine," I grumbled. "I guess let's do this." I grimaced as we shook hands, dreading whatever was in store for me.

"So, how are we going to do this?"

"Okay." I shook myself off, forcing myself to get over my disgust and clear my head so this would work. "We need a reason for why we've hated each other. Covering feelings for a while before we dated but we wanted to keep it a secret so we carried on pretending to not get along?"
