Everything had clearly gone to shit for the Creators. Good.
Someone must have broken in and shot up the place, destroying everything in the process if the broken machinery and dead bodies were anything to go by.
I tried not to look as it creeped me the fuck out and sent a cold shiver down my spine, but it was quite difficult to find a place to focus on that didn't make the room appear as if a massacre had just taken place.
A video of a woman suddenly started playing after Thomas pressed a red button without even stopping to think about whether it would be a good idea or not - for all we know, it could've set off a fucking bomb.
The woman - Ava Paige - explained how the sun had scorched the world and left everywhere a giant desert and after, a horrible plague known as the Flare Virus rapidly spread, killing billions.
"Is it too late to go back to the Maze and get my memories re-wiped?" I asked as I watched in horror at a clip of someone with the virus.
She then went on to say how eventually a generation emerged who was seemingly immune and that meant they would have to be tested and even sacrificed in order to find a cure.
As she was talking about how not everyone agreed with what they did, masked people ran in with guns, wrecking the place.
The video cut off as she shot herself in the head after saying her final words.
"'WCKD is good' my ass," I muttered.
"Is it over?" Chuck asked no one in particular, hoping someone would have some answers.
"She said we were important," Newt commented, stating the bloody obvious. "Well, what are we supposed to do now?"
"I don't know," Thomas answered honestly, "but let's get out of here."
"No." Oh no. It couldn't be. Right? "We can't leave."
I turned around and saw him, a wave of relief crashing over me. "Gally!" I exclaimed, running to hug him tightly. He didn't return my embrace. I pulled away. "Gally?" Seeing him this close up, I could tell something was serious wrong.
"We did. Gally, we're out. We're free," Thomas assured cautiously.
"Jules, come back here," Newt ordered and for the first time in my life, I listened without any protest whatsoever; I'd just clocked his gun.
"Free? You think we're free out there?" Gally scoffed. "No, there's no escape from this place." He raised the gun up and aimed it right at Thomas' chest.
I knew the only one here that had a chance of reaching him was me so I slowly walked to him, keeping my hands out in front of me in case he tried anything. When I eventually reached him, I cupped his face with my hands. This close to him, I came to a horrible realisation - he'd been Stung.
"Gally, please listen to me." I did my best to not cry but it was difficult: he was going to die. I couldn't lose him. "You're not thinking straight. Okay? You're not well. But if you come with us, we can get you better." There was bound to be more of those vials that helped Thomas and Alby around here.
"Jules..." he sobbed out, a part of him suddenly returning.
"Please fight it. I know you can. Please, Gally. If not for you, then for me. I don't want to live without you." I desperately clung onto his chest as tears fell. "We didn't have anywhere near enough time together. I can't carry on with life knowing what could have happened between us. Surviving without you wouldn't be surviving at all. I wish I'd told you more times, but I love you, Gally. More than you'll ever know. I'll never stop loving you, either. Never." Even in this shit situation, the feeling of Gally's body on mine instantly calmed me down and brought me a sense of peace.
