It was official. I was never going to have a dream ever again. Any time I had a dream, it was about Gally and I dating for real. What the fuck? What was the need? Why did my brain delight in torturing me like that?
It had been a month since I had the first dream and whatever brief moment of sort-of getting along Gally and I had was long gone. Things were tense and awkward and horrible.
Unfortunately, we could no longer fully hide it from the other Gladers, and it was getting around that we had broken up. That wasn't good, especially since I saw Derek smirk whenever someone mentioned that.
"Minho, I don't know what to do!" I sighed hopelessly one night on the Watchtower.
"Wow, that's... a lot to take in." He furrowed his eyebrows as he tried to figure out how he could help me.
I may or may not have told him that my so-called 'relationship' with Gally was fake. I couldn't keep it a secret from him forever!
"Why don't you just talk to him? Remind him about the whole reason why you both agreed to this in the first place?" Minho suggested.
"Tried it. Didn't work. He got mad. We ended up yelling at each other." I placed my head in my hands. There was no fix for this. "Guess I better just accept that this is a lost cause and feed Derek to the Grievers?"
Minho snorted. "That's always an option."
"At least someone thinks so. When I suggest that around others, they tend to lecture me on it." That definitely wasn't a dig on Alby (I didn't have anything against the guy since he was keeping us alive and all but still one measly little sacrifice couldn't hurt, could it?).
"Hm... Now, I'm going to say something and you're going to hate it but before you refuse, at least think about it first. Apologise to Gally and properly make an effort to win him over. Maybe even go as far as to try to become friends with him to make this a little more bearable."
I raised an eyebrow. "I'm trying so hard to not slap you in your shuck face for that."
"Consider it, alright? Who knows, it could work."
"Y'know, you're being awfully insightful tonight considering the fact you're the dumbest shank around," I teased.
"Hey, I have my moments," he shrugged with a smirk.
"Hm. Sure you do."
"Hey, Gally?" I said that night about ten minutes after we had gone to bed. "You alright?"
He groaned. "What do you want, Juliette?"
"I'm just checking up on you. How are you doing?"
"I'd be doing great if you left me the shuck alone." Rude.
"So I'm no longer allowed to make conversation with you? How is our whole arrangement going to work if we never talk?"
"Do we really need to carry on with this shucking relationship? It was ages ago Derek threatened you and he still hasn't done anything. Clearly, he was bluffing."
As I was about to remind him that Derek hadn't done anything because he thought the two of us were together, he told me to just leave it as he couldn't be bothered and wanted to sleep; he said we'd discuss what he said in the morning.
