My Promise For You | Fred Weasley

Chapter 16:

It's the day of the first task of the tournament and the champions have already arrived in the tent to prepare themselves.

Kathleen, George, Fred and I were seated together in the stands. We were chatting while waiting for the task to begin when Jessica's shrill voice was heard. Kathleen and I looked at each other and rolled our eyes.

"Hello you!" she said, standing next to Fred.

"Great you were able to join us!" Fred replies, smiling at her.

And here is the return of the distant Fred who only has eyes for her. However, for once George didn't seem captivated by her presence unlike the other times. I decided to ignore them and focus on Cedric and Harry.

Cedric's turn came and he entered the arena, he had to face a Swedish Snort-Snout and retrieve a golden egg. When I saw the dragon I was terrified.

He was trying to retrieve the egg as the dragon tried to burn him. I was on the edge of my seat and was holding my breath. Cedric ends up turning a rock into a labrador to distract the dragon. He takes the egg but got his arm burned.

A thunder of applause sounded and I shouted with all my might.

Harry's turn then came and he had to face a spiked Magyar. I could see he was terrified and wondered if we had made the right choice in deciding that he would do this task.

He finally called his broomstick, climbed on it and immediately flew away. After flying for a few moments Harry managed to catch the egg.

The crowd started screaming, myself included.

"They did it!" I exclaimed with a big smile and hugged Kathleen. We started jumping and shouting with joy.

It was now the time to go visit them in the infirmary and we went to see Cedric first.

"You made it Ced! You can be proud of yourself" I say.

"It was amazing!" Kathleen added.

"It was mostly terrifying" replied Cedric laughing. We continued to rehearse the strongest moments of this morning.

"Well I'm going to see Harry, we'll meet later" I said and stood up.

Arrived towards Harry I took him in my arms and told him "You were exceptional Harry!"

"Thank you Mayline" replied the boy still breathless.

"I just wanted to tell you that; I'll leave you with Hermione and Ron, see you later!"

Back in the common room with Kathleen I decided to tell her about the discussion I had overheard between Fred and George. Obviously leaving aside the fact that George was planning to invite her. We sat in a corner of the common room and I told her that I thought Fred was thinking of inviting me.

"Seriously?!" she exclaimed.

"Hush! But yes that's what I heard, we'll see"

When Harry entered the common room accompanied by the rest of the students, an explosion of shouts and cheers rang out.

"Open the egg Harry!" exclaimed Lee Jordan.

"Do you want me to open it?" asked Harry enthusiastically.

"Yes!" shouted the whole room. Then Harry opened the egg and an awful high-pitched noise arose.

"Close it!" exclaimed Fred.

So Harry rushed to close it and silence fell. After a few moments everyone went back to their business. I noticed across the room that Fred was chatting with Jessica. The latter laughed out loud and I wondered what he could tell her.

George arrived and sat down next to Kathleen. Shortly after Harry came to me and said "Mayline I'm not sure what this clue is supposed to be but I hope you can find it. If I can help you, let me know" and he gave me the golden egg.

"Thanks Harry!"

"Good luck not going deaf with that" laughed George.
