My Promise For You | Fred Weasley

Chapter 19:

After almost a week of getting out of my room practically only for classes; Kathleen or George brought me food; after avoiding everyone for a while I decided it was time for me to stop obsessing about myself.

The only person I saw besides George and Kathleen was Adrian. I met him one night inside the greenhouse and it became a habit. We were discussing everything and nothing; that allowed me to change my mind.

I was in the library to catch up on overdue homework when a 1st year slitheryn interrupted me.

"Excuse me but I was told to give you this." He put a piece of paper on my table and left immediately.

I opened it and saw "May, join me at our usual place. Adrian"

I hurried to put my things away and go to him.

Arriving in the greenhouse I saw him holding a box.

"Hi Adrian, you wanted to see me?"

"Yes, here" he handed me the box and I took it. "But wait before you open it. I've been trying for days to figure out how to ask you this. Will you be my date?"

At that moment I did not even think of Fred and replied "Yes with pleasure!"

He then took me in his arms and says "You can open it now."

I opened the box and discovered a beautiful gold bracelet with a pendant that represent an " M".

"It's beautiful Adrian, thank you!"

He tied it around my wrist and we continued talking. I finally had my date for the ball!

I felt a slight pain in my hand which I decided not to pay more attention to.

After spending the afternoon chatting with Adrian it was time for us to return. He walked me to the entrance of my common room.

"Thanks again for the bracelet and just so you know, my dress will be turquoise" I said smiling.

"I'm sure you'll look beautiful in it!" he kissed me on the cheek, when Fred arrived to enter the common room.

"See you later!" Adrian told me and I smiled.

I went in and felt that Fred was behind me.

"Adrian Pucey? Seriously?" he told me in a disgusting tone. I turned slowly and looked at him, waiting for him to continue.

"Are you going to the ball with him?" he asked me.

"I don't see why you care" I replied in a chilling tone.

"I care because you could have done a lot better!"

"You have no right to say such things!" I said and took the direction of the stairs. But he did not let go of the case. I came to close the door in front of him but he entered by force.

"I want to talk to you Mayline! And I stand by what I said, you deserve better"

"Oh yeah? And who do I deserve?" i ask and furrows my eyebrows.

He hesitated to answer, he opened his mouth but I cut him off. "And don't tell me 'you' !" I say furiously.

"Why not?" he said, frowning.

I laughed sarcastically "Are you happy playing with me like that?! You already have your date so leave me alone!"

"But I didn't want to invite her at first..."

"Then why did you do it?!" I couldn't hold my voice. "Why did you ask her and not me?"

"I really don't know."

"You can't even give me a better excuse than this one?"

"All I know... is that I intended to ask you."

"That's your loss now! I'm tired of taking second place, the only thing I wanted from you was to be your first choice, just like you were for me! But I see that someone else occupies this place..." I say with regret.

"No Mayline, don't say that. I really don't know what's going on in my head right now, but I know that I really wanted to take you"

"It doesn't matter anymore" I say and smile bitterly.

He opened the door, looked at me one last time and went out.
