I didn't even take the time to answer her. I didn't see why she was so sure he would ask her to come with him.

Silence returned and Kathleen entered "May, George told me to call you apparently it's urgent".

"Okay, I'm going" I got up and put a cardigan over my tank top. I headed for the boys' room. Arrived at the door, I raised my hand to knock but heard something that made me stop.

Inside the boys' room

"Who are you thinking of inviting to the ball?" Fred asked.

"I'm thinking of asking Kathleen to come with me, but I have no idea how to do it. How about you?" replied George.

My heart began to beat faster. I didn't know if I could stay listening to them. It wasn't right but I wanted to hear his answer.

"No idea" replied Fred.

"Are you sure, you didn't think to ask May?"

Me? George really thinks Fred might ask me to come with him!

"I admit I thought about it, but I don't know if she would say yes"

"You'll never know unless you ask her!"

"You're right..." At that moment, a big smile appeared on my face. Fred was thinking of asking me! I decided to not listen any longer and knocked on the door. George opened it for me and I entered.

"Hello boys, Kathleen told me you were looking for me George"

"Yes! Can you help me ask Kath to come with me to the Yule Ball?" George asked me enthusiastically.

"Yes of course! You will tell me what I can do and I'll help you" Meanwhile, I noticed that Fred kept looking at me with a smile.

"You are the best May!" George exclaimed and shook me by the shoulders.

"I know, I know" I say, laughing.

"May?" Fred called me.

"Yes?"

"Do you already have an idea of who you will go with?"

He didn't intend to ask me that right now!

"Uh no... not really. And you?" I say the last part of my sentence softly fearing his answer.

"Yes, I have an idea" Fred replied with a smirk.

I nodded slowly and smiled. "Well it's time for me to go back to bed. Good night!"

"Night May!" the two boys answered me.

Back in my room, all the lights were off and the girls were already asleep. I lay down and thought about the conversation I had overheard.

=================

The day after

When I woke up, the girls had already left so I took advantage of this calm to read my parents' letters.

Darling,

We are happy to know that you arrived safely and that the first lessons are going well. Don't pay too much attention to Alastor Moody, your dad used to work with him and he's quite the phenomenon.

Jessica Williams?! The Jessica from your childhood is a witch? As the world is small, you must have so many things to tell each other! Say hello to her from us.

Now on to the important topic...

Mayline Taylor! How did you candidate instead of Harry?! That's really nice of you, but you didn't have to go that far. This tournament is dangerous!

We have no doubt that everything will be fine for you my dear, but please take real care of yourself. And we saw Rita Skeeter's article, don't pay attention to what she says! We know you my darling.

Your father wants me to tell you that absolutely! How come you didn't tell us you're dating Cedric? I'm not angry, quite the contrary. Say hi to him for me!

Take care my darling, we love you very much!

Mom and dad

My dad recently hinted that Cedric is a good boy and that he wouldn't be mad if I had feelings for him. He might be a very good auror, but he's way off the mark.

I then took the letter that my mother wrote to me alone and read it.

My dear,

I take back what I said previously; don't say hi to Jessica. But who does she think she is? Calling my daughter a hypocrite! Don't be fooled sweetheart.

Concerning Fred, boys this age are sometimes really stupid. Don't take what happened too seriously. They just be given more attention than usual and they lose their minds! But I'm sure you'll both find each other in the end.

I know there is the Yule ball; this may be the occasion! (I sent you money to buy your dress).

Keep me updated honey, I love you.

Mom

I decided to answer them later and put the letters away in the drawer of my bedside table. I skip breakfast and go straight to class. After a quiet morning I was heading to the Great Hall with Kathleen when Harry stopped me.

"Hi!" Harry says.

"Hi!" Kathleen and I answered.

"You know that the first task is in 3 days, I know what it is about. Dragons" he told me a little distraught.

"What?! But how do you know that?"

"It's a long story but I saw them. And yes, I told Cedric"

"That's really nice of you Harry. If you need my help with anything just let me know"

"If this is the first task I do not ask to see the following ones" says Kathleen

"Thanks!" I tell her sarcastically.

"I was just telling you that; but don't worry Hermione is already helping me" and with that he left.

"We have to go see Cedric!" says Kathleen.

We then headed for the Hufflepuff common room and she tapped the barrels to the rhythm that Cedric showed us. We go inside and some students stare at us. We take the direction of Cedric's room which he occupies alone since he is a prefect.

I knock and he opens the door. "Hi girls, what are you doing here?"

"We just met Harry, he told us about the dragons" I explain to him.

"Ah yes, come sit down!" We then follow him to his bed and sit down.

"Do you feel ready?" asks Kathleen worried.

"Can we really be ready to face a dragon?" he asks, laughing. "But seriously, I borrowed books to learn more about them"

"It's a good thing! If you want we can help you" I tell him.

"It would be good yes!" We then each take a book and note the important information on a sheet. After an hour we decide to take a break.
