My Promise For You | Fred Weasley

Chapter 8:

I go to the library to read a little before going to see Cedric. It's the first day of practice for Hufflepuff. Arrived in the common room I come across Jessica chatting with Angelina Johnson.

"Hi girls! How was your first day?" I ask excitedly.

"Tiring but I admit that your little animation with Adrian raised the level of the day!" Angelina replies laughing.

"Don't tell me about it, besides it was my fault!" I say hiding my face with my hands.

"Ah yes I heard about it! My day was boring next to yours" adds Jessica.

"I hope tomorrow will be better. I'm going to see Cedric play quidditch, do you want to come with me?" I ask.

"I have to meet with Alicia, so another time" replies Angelina and leaves.

"Cedric? Is he your boyfriend?" Jessica asks me.

"Oh no! he's just a very good friend that's all." I answer embarrassed.

"Hum I see, maybe I'll hang around the common room a bit. I'll see you at dinner" she replies.

"Okay no worries! See you tonight!" I answer and go up to my dorm to change.

"Hey Kath! Are you coming to see Cedric with me?" I ask my friend who was on her bed doing her homework.

"Yes, just give me 5 minutes to change" she replies enthusiastically.

After changing, we head to the quidditch pitch. We climb into the bleachers in our usual places and the training of the team begins. Cedric is the captain and seeker of his team. Kathleen and I can't stop screaming at the top of our lungs every time he flies past us.

The training ends and we head to the center of the field. Some players go change as Cedric heads towards us.

"Hi girls!" he then approaches me and takes me in his arms.

"Oh Cedric you're sweating, let go of me!" I say trying to push him.

"You still love me!" he lets go of me and comes over to do the same to Kathleen. The latter shouts "Don't even think about it!" And when she sees that he is going to do it, she starts running.

"Come back Kath! I want my hug" He finally catches her and takes her in his arms. Seeing the scene, I start laughing. They both come back to my level.

"Okay Cedric go shower, we're going to eat. See you later!" said Kathleen.

"Okay, thanks for coming girls!" he replies with a smile.

"It's normal!" I respond with a wink.

Kathleen and I head back to the Great Hall for dinner when she complains "I hate it when he does that, we won't even have time to shower before going to eat".

"I just hope we don't smell too much" I added, laughing.

We sit down at our table and start helping ourselves. I take the mashed potatoes and chicken when the rest of the group joins us. Fred, George and Lee sit in front of us and Jessica sits on my side.

"Hi girls!" said Lee.

"Hi!" I answer and wave.

"I'm sure you guys missed us!" adds Kathleen with a smile.

"Of course; I thought I would die without you!" exclaims George and everyone laugh.

"What smells like that?" Jessica asks disgusted. I then immediately think that it is me. "Why do you smell like that Mayline?" Jessica asks me.

Looking embarrassed I answer "Hum we were with Cedric after his training so that must be it, sorry".

"Ah" Jessica replies and gets up to sit between George and Fred. "Sorry but I can't stand the smell of sweat" she told me with a small smile.

I look down and stare at my plate without missing the smile that Fred gives her when he sees her sit down.

The rest of the dinner goes quietly and I try not to pay too much attention to Jessica's remark. After finishing, the group heads towards the common room. Everyone scatters in the different chairs and I take the opportunity to go take my shower.

When I come down the clock shows midnight and I say "Fred, George it's time!"

"Time for what?" Jessica asks.

"We go to the astronomy tower to stargaze and chat" George replies.

"It's kind of a tradition they've been doing on the first day of class since their second year" adds Lee.

"We can call it that!" I say smiling.

George gets up, comes to me and asks "Are you coming Fred?".

Fred hesitates but gets up, when Jessica grabs his arm and says "Stay with me Fred please". Fred looks at me guiltily. "I'm sure Mayline won't mind, right? Jessica asks me with a smile.

Even if deep down I wanted him to come with us, I didn't want to force him. So I answered "No of course, you do as you want".

Fred sat back down and replied "Another time then".

Resigned, I left the common room followed by George. Not a single word had been spoken on the way. We then got to the Astronomy Tower, sat down on the ledge and I sighed.

George gave me a little nudge and says "I'm here May".

"I didn't say anything George"

"I know you didn't say anything, but I know you. And I saw your reaction when he decided to stay"

At that moment I wondered if George knew that I had feelings for his brother or if he was just as blind as the latter. Knowing that I had never confessed anything to him, I was afraid that he would realize it and tell Fred about it.

"I was just a little disappointed, we had never missed this tradition" I added softly.

"I understand but Fred is still your best friend, don't worry" he replied.

"Yes...my best friend"

"Besides we don't need him when I'm here! Look at this constellation it looks like a woman being chased by a dog" laughs George.

That's what we used to do and the boys were always better than me at this game. I decided to stop thinking about Fred and enjoy this moment with George.

We were talking when George asked me a question that I hadn't expected at all. "May? Do you think I have a chance with Kathleen?" he asked me embarrassed.

"I didn't know you had feelings for Kathleen".

"I wouldn't call it love, but I like her" George replies.

"I admit that she never spoke to me about that but I will tell you if I know more" I smile at him.

"Thank you May"

An hour later, we decided to go back to the common room. Arrived at the door of my room, I took George in my arms and whispered "Thank you for everything Georgie".

The latter rubbed his hand on my head and gave me a wink "See you tomorrow May".
