Gon was currently in the forest surrounded by wisteria trees, taking an exam.

This isn't a paper test kind of exam, it's a survival test.

It's called The Final Selection.

It kinda sounds boring to Gon, but he heard that it was really hard and dangerous, so naturally, he was drawn to it.

Why? No one knows.

Anyways, Gon was searching for some demons to kill. Which is also kind of confusing, since Gon doesn't have a katana. Instead, he used his signature fishing rod as his weapon once again.

So how'd he get here?

Well for starters, he woke up in the middle of the road. Actually it wasn't a road but something similar.

-Huh? How'd I get here?- Gon looked around at his surroundings, which was just the road and a ginormous field of grass.

His clothes were also different. Instead of his usual green outfit, he wore a green haori that faded into an orangish red. His green boots replaced with dark green sandals and tinted green socks.

And his clothes were the same as the one he wore at NGL.

Gon got up and decided to walk down the road since there was nothing else to do and no one's going to be here for a long time.

His fishing rod was here, which was good.

Along the way, he saw a man with a red mask and a blue haori.

The man passed Gon without a word, and Gon continued to skip his way down the road, kind of like a child would.

Soon enough, he reached a village.

As he walked through the village, he ran into a small crowd who were gathering around a man.

This guy was holding a katana, wearing an odd uniform of some sorts.

There at his feet, was a humanoid creature.

The crowd cheered at his 'success'. Gon, who was confused, asked the woman next to him what had happened.

"He killed the demon that was tormenting our village!" Then she went back to cheering for the man.

Gon was looking around when he heard a little girl ask her father "Can I be a demon slayer?"

Her voiced drowned out in the crowd, but Gon decided to do a little bit of "researching" which was just asking random people questions.

Which got him here, at the Final Selection.

When Gon heard it was an exam, his face went pale. The person he asked laughed before saying the exam wasn't a paper test.

Gon sighed in relief, action was always a better teacher than paper.

The test was nearing its end, so Gon ran up to the end of the exam.

He was the first person there, not counting the two young girls that were there.

After about two minutes, another person came.

Then another, and another, and another.

In total, there were five people including him that had survived and made it here.

"Congratulations on surviving, you six will be provided with your very own uniform."

Six? Last Gon counted there was five. Did he count wrong? No, because everyone else was confused.

"You will also get to pick the ore your katana is made of."

On the table, there were a number of ores that looked basically identical.

"And you will be assigned a crow."

As if on cue, a crow landed on Gon's arm. Gon grinned, already loving the crow.

He looked to his right and saw a blonde boy who got a sparrow instead of a crow.

But then a boy with a black Mohawk grabbed the hair of one of the young girls and started yelling at her to give him a Katana already.

A boy with red hair stepped up and grabbed onto the other boy's wrist, threatening to break it off he didn't let go.

Finally, he let go.

After all of that, the ores made of Nichirin for their katanas were presented.

The boy with red hair went first. He sniffed the air and then picked up one ore.

Gon internally smiled. There was another person who's nose was extremely strong in smelling stuff.

Gon decided to go last. As everyone went to the table, Gon went to the white haired girl whom the boy had grabbed harshly.

"Are you okay?" He asked her.

She nodded, but didn't say anything.

He looked back at the table, seeing the last person pick the ore, so he walked over to the table, sniffed, and then picked an ore.

It didn't really matter, they were all the same to him anyways.

But now where does he go? He sighed.

-I guess I can just do whatever mission Korvin tells me to.-

Korvin is the name of the crow he was 'assigned', or as Gon puts it, gifted. As you'd expect, Korvin already loved Gon.

After all, animals always love hunters.
