I've been driving for about 3 hours now. My tank is screaming for mercy, as well as my feet.
"Lilith! Wake up!" I say, lightly shaking her with one hand.
"Hm?" She answers, lifting her head as she wakes up.
"We need to stop. Can you open my phone and look at where we are while I try to locate a hotel?" I ask, handing her my phone.
She nods and we begin our tasks.
"We're in Greenville, North Carolina. There should be a Holiday Inn around the corner" Lilith informs me.
Sure enough, I spot the Holiday Inn around the corner.
"I'm getting gas before we stop for the night" I say, making sure she doesn't get spooked by me not going towards the hotel.
She nods and I locate a gas station. I pump the gas while Lilith loads up on snacks and drinks. The sky here has stars and less clouds. There's cars out and about, people walking down the street. I think we will be alright to stop and sleep for the rest of the night.
Lilith comes back just as I finish pumping gas. We then head back to the hotel, hoping they have room.

I parked the car around the side of the building by an exit door. We are now walking to the front door. The place is lit up quite well so I'm not too worried about our safety.
Walking in I'm greeted by warm light and a spacious seating area to my left. Turning to my right are two desks with a person at each. I walk up to one of them just as they notice our presence.
"Hello! Are you checking out or booking?" The lady asks with a smile, a bit too enthusiastic for 3am.
"Booking, just one room for the night please" I answer, giving her a tired smile trying to be polite.
"Of course!" She responds.

The lady got us our room on the fourth floor for pretty cheep. I think she could tell we weren't here for a vacation.
We walk in and prop the door open to do safety checks. Lilith checks for bed bugs and double sided mirrors while I check for cameras.
"I don't see any cameras" I say as Lilith comes out of the bathroom.
"No bed bugs and the mirrors are normal" she informs.
I nod and go to close the door and lock it.
Setting my bag on a chair, I flop face first onto the bed. I feel the bed dip beside me and both of us sigh in unison. We take a moment to just sit in silence. Enjoying each others company and the sounds of life outside. Eventually we make our way under the covers.
"Try to get some sleep Y/N, you did a lot of driving tonight" Lilith whispers beside me.
"You too" I whisper back.
In no time both of us are fast asleep. For the moment, we are worry free. At peace.
