4-4: It's a Trap! (Spider 72)

I arrived back at my homebase in the labyrinth, and came face to face with five Arch Taratects and an army of small fries.

Well well well, looks I fell for Mother's trap, ha...eh shit.

She knew I would retreat here out of habit, knowing me better than I know myself.

Nai wa, this is gonna be a long day, isn't it?

They all shoot threads at me, but I managed to fling myself out of the way with [Telekinesis] just in the nick of time, and onto the ceiling.

However, the wall and ceiling is crawling with small fries, all trying to pile on me to slow me down.

No seriously, they are up, down and all around the place, reminds me of when I was first reborn into this world.

They can't really hurt me, but that doesn't mean they can't create openings for the Arches to strike me down.

I cut my way through them while keeping an eye on the Arches to avoid their assault, which is difficult to do with my cut legs severely limiting my mobility.

Something else I ought to complain about is my [Multi-Minds] sisters never telling me about the fact that Mother has more Arches in reserve.

I know I didn't ask, but I was busy...doing my 'chores'.

More importantly, I need to escape this sticky situation, no pun intended.

The obvious solution is another Fast Travel, and this time, to the Middle Stratum, where my kind's crippling weakness to Fire, that I have somewhat overcome, should keep me safe there, if ever for only a little while.

Easier said than done of course, especially in the middle of fending off an army of spiders.

I need to create an opening for myself.

Actually, given my homebase is right near the entrance to the Middle Stratum, I just need to escape this corner I have found myself in and rush in there.

Which means I can afford to focus on easier Spells to help me with just that.

Just then, one of the Arch managed to catch me with a thread, and before I could react, I was dragged down in the middle of all five of them.

Without hesitation, they bit down on me, killing me instantly.

Or at least, that's what they think has just happened.

I actually cast five [Heretic Magic: Phantasma] on each of them, which was really difficult as I have to make sure each of them sees the same thing.

Still, I managed it, and by the time they realised they had been attacking a rock I made with [Earth Magic], I was already making a break for the Middle Stratum.

At the same time, I begin trying to heal my legs to run faster.

Almost there, just a bit more.

Suddenly, some creepy doll thing hanging upside down appears right in my face.

Nani the duck!? How did I not notice-

But before I could finish my thought, it attacked me with its swords in each of its six arms.

Even with [Future Sight] warning me early, I still couldn't back off in time, and had both my scythe arms cut off.
